GM can shut down 2009 vehicles with onstar on a whim

I hate and always have hated the whole concept of OnStar; this bit of news is just icing on the cake for me.

The only way I would ever buy a vehicle that had it would be if I could permanently and easily disable it (of course it would still bother me that I had to pay for the dam thing)

My understanding is that you can indeed disable the thing, and that would be my first mod.

What is a somewhat troublesome trend is other manufacturers using similar systems, a la BMW. If I'm not mistaken, it was even the same system as OnStar.

When my free OnStar period was up on the CTS, the antenna was disconnected. I'll be doing the same on my G8, although it might take a bit more work since it seems better intergrated. I'm not the tinfoil hat type, but if I'm not using the system I see no reason to even open up the possibility of someone being able to shut off my car, turn on the microphone, or pinpoint my whereabouts.

if someone can steal my vette without the keyfob then they probably know how to disable the onstar. i'd assume stealing most modern GM vehicles without the key is also fairly difficult and thus taking out the onstar fuse isn't all that unlikely.

and the vette won't lock the doors with the keyfob inside the car
