Which is why selling Opel without any option of GM being able to "buy back in" once they were financially strong enough never made any sense. GM needs both the Opel brand and technology. Without it, they would have either had to invest in starting over with FWD in Europe and North America; or bailed out of Europe altogether and move North American FWD to Asian built technology. Neither was going to happen.
