GM adds 100k Mile Powertrain Warranty to Used Cars

This is great for residual values and the like, and will help boost GM's image. But of course, it only covers 2002 vehicles forward...mine's an '01!

Well DAYUM.

I agree... this ais a great calculated risk to take that shows direct support and confidence in their dependability and durability.

KUDOS to them for having bollocks-enough to do this.

should start when you buy it not when the original owner did. other than that it's an awesome idea.

Well this only applies when you buy a '02-06 used certified vehicle right? I own an '02 WS6, but I won't receive this warranty because I already own it? Or is GM just putting it across the board.

Weird. My 2006 would have a longer powertrain warranty for the next guy, than for me.

Not joke. My 05 is the same. Maybe I should trade it in and buy it back.

good move

It's a great move, as many people shopping for used vehicles (4 year old or newer) would love the extra warranty and security that comes with it.

It's a good move for the dealers, too, since people will now go to them instead of shady back-of-industrial-complex dealers.

I am sure, though, that this warranty will cost $X amount for the dealer, and he will incorporate this into the vehicle's price.

So what's different between this and your typical dealer-sold "certified" used car that comes with a premium warranty?

Good! I just hope they advertise this well so the average person knows about it.

I thought GM also decided to apply the warranty retroactively to 2006 models when they announced the original plan?

And yes, GM is not covering all models regardless of when they were purchased. They are covering those purchased "certified pre-owned" from dealerships starting March 5.

Nah, Cadillacs do not qualify for this program. 2002-2006 Certified Used Vehicles from Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac, Buick and Oldsmobile.

Cadillac, Saab and Hummer will continue to operate their existing Certified vehicle warranty programs, all of which feature a 6-year/100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty effective from the vehicle’s in-service date.

Plus, Wilson has it. All 2006's were retro'd in with the original announcement.

.
That's only if it was a MY2007. Like the GMT900's. Mine's not included, eventhough it was one of the last 2006's manufactured. I wouldn't be surprised if it were the very last manual trans CTS made in MY 2006.

Wait, all 2006 model year vehicles, no matter when they were sold have a 100k mile power train warranty? I'll have to let my friend know about that!
