I hope this makes it into the next gen Impala! With the turbo on top of the engine, I don't think it will fit the Camaro so well. Who has the image of the outline of this engine compared to the Gen4 SBC?

The 6.6L Duramax makes 360hp and 650tq.

Where do you guys think the 4.5L V8 will fit in? 300hp and 525tq?
Damn I was close!

What could the car applications be? Impala? G8? Camaro? Would anybody buy a diesel Camaro? Could this engine fit into a transverse V-8 chassis?

4.5L DOHC turbo diesel Camaro would likely get ridiculous gas mileage and would be dangerous with a programmer.

GM is gonna sell the absolute crap outa these in the 1/2 tons . If this engine is refined enuff , the performance and economy #'s could make it popular alternative in the cars as well .

They are going to have to do some major upgrading to the rest of the drive train to keep all the torque under control!!!

I hope it's relatively quiet as an engine. Some diesels are loud, some are quiet(er) but I believe the more quiet they are (inside the cabin) the better they sell!

My buddy has an 06 Duramax, and it is extremely quiet. It's hard to tell it's a diesel at idle. It is definitely quieter than the 03 he had before it. Which wasn't that bad.

I am just glad GM is finally going to make a half ton diesel. It would solve all of my towing needs, and should get pretty good gas mileage. My buddy's 03, once broken in, was getting 20mpg on average(60% highway/40% city).

Just the other day I was told how loud my '02 LB7 was. Funny when you think back in '01 how loud the Cummins and 7.3 PSD were. Back then the Duramax was considered quiet.

I agree in recent years with additional advancements in the pilot injection operation, the high pressure common rail systems are the quietest ever.

Most importantly: What will be the cost relative to the 5.3? $2,000? $3,000? $4,000? This engine will be ALOT more expensive to manufacture than a common pushrod 5.3.

Very true!
How many years of better mileage would you have to drive the vehicle to offset the initial cost?
