^^^ Interesting info and I had no idea. I've only seen them in a few places out here and it's usually in the dessert near a pass where the wind is steady and fast and they have farms of maybe 100 together. I can't say I've ever been close enough to hear them. I just figured that the reason we didn't see more was cost and location to be in a windy area. But if they sound like a jet engine then yikes that's worse than living next to a major airport. And it's probably why the ones out here are far from civilization.

I watched a Discovery show probably a 2 years back about farmers in Holland replacing old wooden windmills with the new turbine generator style ones right next to their house. Seemed like a great idea in that they could generate all the power for the home and then sell the excess back to the power company. Maybe all those people have gone nuts by now!

They're actually getting ready to build a new nuclear power plant in Missouri. First new nuclear power plant in the US in over 20 years. Its supposed to cost $6-9 Billion and take forever to complete
