Re: G6 GTP coupe vs Mustang GT

With some of the weather I got to deal with, I would definitely opt for the G6 GTP. If I was living on the west coast, then it would be a different story, I would be driving the Mustang GT.

Re: G6 GTP coupe vs Mustang GT

Most people on this board should be answering GT. Sure, I might drive both, but I'd probably settle with the GT probably. BUT I can see where the general public could side with the G6.

I was shopping for a car back in '98 around the price range of a V6 Camaro. I considered just about every car in the price range, focusing on performance, utility, and style. Sure I looked at Mustang and Camaro, but I also looked at Probe and Escort ZX2 as well as the 150 HP Neon and Sunfire. I chose Camaro then. Now it might be more difficult.

P.S. My second choice was the ZX2. Had the lowest HP, but good low end torque and tossability. Neon and Sunfire didn't get a second glance after a test drive, and the Probe felt way too soft even though it was decent performance wise. Stang was way slower back then. Camaro just fit perfect...seating position, handling, power, hatch, fold down back seat.

I would settle for the McLaren F1 instead of the G6 or Mustang.

Honestly, it would depend on the role of the vehicle. I would lean Mustang if it was my only car, but might consider the G6 more strongly if it was more of a daily car and there was some other fast car that I owned. This is because I live on the Gulf Coast and have the luxury of never driving in snow

I agree with guionM, they are now too far apart to crossshop. Now if Ford still offered the V8 Tarus, I'd take the G6 in a minute. G6 looks more like a Buick than the Grand Am.

I think it just looks friggen sweet And I don't know what Buick you could compare it to, but...ok...

I think HAZ-Matt hit the nail on the head...as a daily driver, I much prefer the G6. If it was my ONLY car (aka no Z in the garage) AND it didn't snow like hell around here (over a foot dumped on my lawn in just the last 4 days ), then I would probably choose the Mustang myself as well.

But it isn't...and I don't...so advantage = G6.

Re: G6 GTP coupe vs Mustang GT

I am not a big fan of Mustang looks. At the same time we're talking about GTP COUPE, not sedan, and it has some of the weirdest proportions/looks as well. The wheelbase is too long for the coupe. And it sits quite high.

The end result? I'll take the GT. Throw snow tires on.

Re: G6 GTP coupe vs Mustang GT

I can't see why they would compare the two...

I finally got to test drive a new stang( a friend just bought a GT), I hated it. The exterior styling is unbelievable, I love it,
the interior was cramped and I felt wedged inside the car. It was smaller than any F-body interior I've been in.

If I was to buy a car now, I would go with the G6, stang isn't practical unless you have it as a 2nd car of have no kids.

Re: G6 GTP coupe vs Mustang GT

First of all - I too think this cross-shopping comparo is skewed. I don't think most will jump from the G6 to the Mustang GT in the same day of shopping.

A V6 buyer is likely to stay in that crowd, so if anything I think the stretch would be to go to a V6 Mustang like the V6 Deluxe or even the Pony edition. Both would be more cost-beneficial than the GT as well.

But in todays market, there is a SLEW of V6 sporty cars to choose from - all the way from the Caddy CTS to the Hyundai whatchamacallit. Again, cross-shopping any 2 models is speculative at best in todays market. Now if we are talking 2-door, RWD coupes - much less with a V8 - well now... THAT'S another story.
