Not just delayed, possibly canceled. From the article:

A GM insider says the automaker needs to begin volume production by March. If that target cannot be met, he says, the program could be shelved because GM would not be able to amortize the vehicle's cost by the time the G6 is redesigned.

Re: G6 convertible delayed...?

That's sad I agree, but one positive thing is I'm glad they're not planning on running the same body style for 10 years.

A redesign already?!?! WOW!

But lack of Convertible SUCKS!

IMO, they need to offer the Cobalt with a Convertible just like the old Cavalier. Even offer the Supercharged SS version in a Convertible, now that would be HOT!

Wow, that would suck if the 'vert got shelved.

However, it is good that they're planning a redesign already.

Re: G6 convertible delayed...?

Probably redesigning it so it's more "Convertible" friendly now that I've thought about it.

First the "good stuff" on the G6 GXP is taken away (AWD, supercharged V6), and now the hardtop vert may be history? The G6 line as a whole has been quite a disappointment. Originally I viewed the car as being potentially quite extraordinary. Now it's just any other decently stylish family sedan.

I'm sure this stuff happens all the time in R&D...

I agree. I like the G6, but with the hardtop 'vert and an AWD blown v6 GXP, it could've been something unique. Oh well

Yeah, stuff like this happens a lot....but usually it's nailed down before now. If the G6 is up for a redesign in a couple of years, then it really isn't financially viable to roll out a convertible version so late in the run...the clock is ticking.

Re: G6 convertible delayed...?

If the hardtop is the issue, why not compromise and put together a G6 softtop? There's already a structurally similar vehicle sitting in Saab showrooms.

And yet another nail in Pontiac's coffin. It would be nice if they had anything that was interesting in their bread and butter cars, because I can't picture a hardtop convertible not selling well at this price point, and the original idea behind the G6 GXP speaks for itself.

I think there are issues with the Saab designed softtop. It was designed specifically by Saab for Saab. GM thought that the mechanism would easily transfer to our Epsilons. It didn't.

Maximum Bob is on call to make sure stuff like this doesn't happen again.

Apparently Maximum Bob is not being as maximum as his name suggests.
