Re: G5 on the way.

I think Pontiac needs their own cars, not imitations of Chevy. They also need to change their current styling. All the Pontiacs have the same basic front end.

For Pontiac dealers, yes.

For GM's supposed plan to refocus their brands, No.

It seems that everyone in key places at GM knows what needs to be done. Yet it seems that somewhere along the line, someone manages to get management to backtrack. Amazing.

Buick-Pontiac-GMC isn't supposed to be Chevrolet. Taking a rebadged Cobalt is a bad idea IMO.

If Pontiac was going to get their own version, it should have it's own sheetmetal and be marketed above Cobalt. Perhaps something visually similar to a smaller Saturn Aura.

Re: G5 on the way.

The Pursuit coupe actually looks better than the Cobalt in my opinion, with one very large exception. The entire fascia should be a dedicated piece, the fact that the signature Pontiac grills are so obviously just an insert in the cobalt grill is unforgivably bad.

Will there be a G5 GXP to go with the IRL and Cobalt SS?

Re: G5 on the way.

Overall I'd have to think no. The Vibe is a pretty good seller isn't it? I'd like to have one, especially if they put an ecotech in it. I thought it had the style and features to fit in Pontiac's portfolio.

Rebadging anything anymore could lead to some really bad customer perseption for GM.

As soon as I heard the ION plans for that car were shelved , and seeing as hoew the interior looked SO close to a production model , I predicted it to be transfered to Pontiac with all the talk of a Cobalt twin . Nobody went with me on that assumption , well , apparently someone did .

IF ..... the above car has been given to Pontiac for a G5 . Then I would be down with the G4 thing . The exterior and interior are VASTLY different from the Cobalt .

But if .....

The Canadian Pursuit is gonna suddenly become the American G5 , I would have to say GM must not care to much about the integrity of their word . How can they preach how they wanna differentiate model lines within GM , get rid of the overlap and bring a new model to market in 2006 where the ONLY difference is wheels , the front grill , the taillights ONLY on the coupe , and the logo's . There is literally no difference otherwise . The interior backlighting in the Canadian Pursuit is 1/2 assed . The guage cluster lights up with Pontiac red backlighting , but everything else like the radio , hvac ect ect is still chevy white . Do you really think people would pay more for it with a Pontiac logo attached . Hell no they wouldnt . I bet your *** though , people would pay a premium over the Cobalt for the photoshopped car above .

Re: G5 on the way.

I'm sure it's a move to pacify dealers. It better look a lot more like that photochop and a lot less like the Pursuit/G4...

But for Chevy dealers The Cobalt is selling well , if the Canadian Pursuit is the G5 most of its business would most likely come from people that would bought a Cobalt anyways . A Cobalt with a arrowhead on it wouldnt be strong enuff to pull in new non-GM buyers , imo

Hopefully Pontiac will pull the Civic/RSX thing and really offer a premium over the Cobalt .

No, but the Ecotec Turbo from the Solstice GXP would make sense.

Re: G5 on the way.

Maybe a Hybrid version? Turbo Diesel?

Needs something to differentiate it from the Cobalt.

Re: G5 on the way.

Is it just me, or does the 4-door Pursuit in that pic look like the ultimate dork-mobile?

Give it the sheet metal of the 1st chop and then Pontiac will be onto something.

Re: G5 on the way.

If Pontiac wants to ever compete with BMW, at the very least every model they offer would have to be rear-wheel drive. Period.
