Re: Ford's Hurricane V8 notgonnahappen.com...

Chevy will have the 6.2L L92 and Dodge will have the 6.1L Super-Hemi and Ford will now have just its 5.4L.

With the Lighning dead, this looks like an awsome time for Chevy to strike and grab some of Ford spotlight. Build a 2wd reg cab Silverado SS with the LS2 for $29K and put a 3v 5.3L in the 1500 and Chevy ca leapfrog Ford in the truck HP wars by a good amount.

True, LS2 is the ticket.

Ya know... after all these years of posting here, I'm still baffled as to folks always want to implement a more expensive solution on a smaller displacement to a given hp want/need.

Kind sir, the answer is not more valves. The answer is more cubes.

Is the N/A 5.4 Mach1 any more than vaporware at this point or is there a production date? Aren't the current Mudstain and the GTO about the same in weight... or at least close enough that a significant power and/or traction advantage is going to have to exist for one to outrun the other?

Given Ford's history with inadequate N/A motors in Mustangs since 1993 (except for the blown 4.6) I'd be very curious as to the viability of the 5.4 liter solution...

Furthermore, bank on one thing for sure:

The LS2 is nowhere near tapped out power-wise. There's still some low hanging fruit that can be easily grasped in the camshaft department.

Given the fact that the biggest concern seems to be drivetrain durability when mated up to the LS2 (note all the "electronic grandmothers" working away furiously in the Vette and holding it back...), I would think that those are the issues that should be taken care of first. Get the drivetrain to survive intact without the nannying, and then turn up the wick.

And if the hp war really heats up, there's still the 7.0 liter, 500hp gorilla LS7 out there lurking.

Again, the #1 issue in both camps is going to be drivetrain durability.

If they want to use the 6.2L L92 in the 1500 series instead of a 3v 5.3L that is fine with me I was under the impression that the 6.2L would be saved for HD trucks. Plus people would question using the 6.2L in the standard 1500 and putting a 6.0L in the Super Sport 1500.

The next gen Zeta GTO will be out around the same time as the Mach 1

Pretty much what I was asking... inquiring minds want to know.

I wonder what engine the GT replacement will get now, since according to Motortrend, it was supposed to get a 7.0L Hurricane.

2007 model was the original plan, I'm not sure were it stands today.

I didn't know there was an original plan. Gotta link? I'd like to read up on it.

Thanks.

Maybe they'll stick with the 6.4L 604hp v10 in the concept car. It is a capable motor. Ford was saying they could get output upto as high as 700hp on it. They've used it in 2 concepts, and given it is a premium sports-car something more exotic like a v10 would probably be more fitting than the more traditional v8.

Still, the 7.0L 427ci v8 has so muc historical significance when you look at the Ford GT40 and Ford racing and muscle of the 60's. So a 7.0L hurricane based v8 with an output north of 600 horses would have been a welcoming sight as well.

I'll have to check the Mustang sites, I remeber reading that the Mach 1 (or Boss or what ever it is called) would be out before the Cobra. The car would basically have a N/A version of the 5.4L Cobra engine.

Mach1 is just a name everyone gives to the all but inevitable SE stangs that will show up within the next 18 months. And given that Ford has only 2 motors to throw at the problem, it's equally inevitable that there will be an NA 5.4 stang positioned between the Gt and Cobra.

The only links existing anywhere are to the above speculation.

That's all anyone "knows"

Old rumors were that we'd see a special edition come this spring or summer. Haven't heard much else, but i believe there was a spy shot of a mustang prototype with what looked like a shakar/mach-1 hood. So hopefully we'll see it sometime this year.

I count two "inevitables" there.

So, that means we are now banking on "double-secret-inevitable" vaporware being faster than the LS2 GTO, sometime in the crystal-clear future.

If someone has something concrete, I'd love to see it.
