Ford's Hurricane program back on?

Interesting to say the least.

Would it be OHC or OHV? If OHC would it simply be increased bore spacing to allow a larger bore with the same stroke as the 5.4? This rasies a lot of questions.

Re: Ford's Hurricane program back on?

It will probably debut in Fords F-series pickups. A team has visited Fords Dearborn Truck factory, where F-150s are made, to assess what changes will be needed to accommodate the new engine on the line there.

But sources say the Hurricane also will be used in other platforms.
I can see it now.

A 'new' SCCA Trans Am series. Displacement limit of 6.2L for normally aspirated engines.

What exotica would a 6.2 Z/28 need to clean the clocks of Mustang and Challenger?

Let the good times roll.....

“Ford has nothing,” Merkle said.
Hah, Ford GT motors across the board! There nothing 550HP can't fix

Seriously though I wonder what the 6.2 will employ, Will it be a 2 vavle motor with pushrods? I doubt it, I think the guess about using OHC multi-valve technology is probably on target. I'd say using variable cam timing.

However if it was an OHV engine, wouldn't it be nice to see a canted valve engine with a sane port size. That would offer nearly the same benefit as a hemi head but with a much more active combustion chamber.

From what I have read, From credible sources. Is that engineers dont have to make this one fit in a FWD car!

They damn sure need it. The Modular can be made to perform, but it falls short of the LSx by a good margin, and the "Hemi" versions too.

Re: Ford's Hurricane program back on?

Supposedly Ford Australia took a delivery of 20 OHV 6.2L V8 motors in the last month....

So do we get any generalities on this program? OHC, OHV?

Re: Ford's Hurricane program back on?

I honestly couldn't see it being OHV. All of Ford's current V8s are OHC so it would seem like a backwards step to go to OHV. Especially if it's going to be their top-of-the-line technology showcase.

Is this what the current speculation is? The Z28 will be like the Z06 to the Vette and a possible Blown engine? God I hope so. I know it will bring a premium, but I'm willing to go there.

Re: Ford's Hurricane program back on?

F-150 needs a bigger V8. After 2007 it will have the weakest top engine in a 1500. Look no further than what the Hemi has done for Dodge sales.
