Ford RWD production sites.

Ford will announce Monday that the next Mustang will be built at the Auto Alliance plant in Flat Rock, Michigan.

Well then, what do they plan to build at the Chicago plant which is rumored as being configured for RWD as well as FWD?

Ahh Flat Rock with it's reputation for quality products such as the Probe and Cougar. Shall we start taking bets on how many recalls the new car will have in it's first 6 months?

The best part of that is that production is being moved to allow a full redo of the Rouge River plant... Mustang's original home since birth. Ford is so "embarrassed" at the antique appearance and internal structure at that site, that they have not allowed plant tours there for YEARS. I've heard the plant is going to be completely gutted and have all-new robotics, environmental controls, lighting, etc installed. A HUGE investment in the future at this point...
Will Mustang be back in it's original home after a makeover... or will some other model be calling the Rouge home? We'll just have to wait and see! I'm betting yes, on the inclusion of a new Cougar, Capri, or some other variant that will share the "performance" version of the DEW platform.

I was under the impression that Flat Rock was a pretty decent plant, and the Probes (both 1 & 2), the Cougar, and the Mazdas produced there were of good quality, and recalls issued were all engineering based?

No rumor there. Chicago IS configured for both FWD & RWD production!

The Rouge facility produced Model T's. That's how old it is. Still has wood block floors in much of it.

The F500 and the Freestyle will be built at Chicago..The DAP (Dearborn Assembly Plant) will be called DTP (Dearborn Truck Plant) once the Mustang is at AAI.The Mustang wont return.Ranger when it is redesigned will end up at DTP as well.

DTP has the ability to build 9 different vehicles once it is up and runing. Or 3 different platforms.

I AM QUOTING MYSELF...
to answer my own question, and announce a somewhat disheartening issue (to me anyways). guess who eluded to this earlier, but I now have infinite detail.

Ford has disclosed their intentions for the refurbished Rouge River Facility. It will be the new home for the F-series truck!
The next generation after the one recently seen at NAIAS (and due out this fall) will be tooled at the Rouge facility. Look for production to commence during '07, and the first plant tours since 1980 will begin in '08.

The high-tech air system, robotics, automation, and everything else good that I heard about will not benefit the Mustang, but the best-selling pickup in the world instead. yay.

Th Rouge was the original home of the Mustang since day one. I was hoping it would return from Flat Rock, but I guess it's gonna end up a MAZ-tang after all.

On a positive side, the new facility will be state of the art in every way, and will even cater to groups and tours - never before done. With special glass cat walks, interactive areas, and an active museum - it should be work checking out in a few years. They showed a couple cool renderings in Mustang Monthly - one was a huge arch-gated Driveway going into the facility like the St. Louis Arch. - not bad for a "broke" company, eh?

Yeah this is older news,It is a sight to see (Rouge as it is now)
As many times over the years driving past it seeing thousands of Mustangs sitting in the lot behind the plant,It is so weird to drive by it now.
Proud Pony. One note I would like to mention is this.DONT call the new Mustang MAZ-tang.AAI is Auto Alliance,In which the workers ARE paid by Ford and work for Ford so they "ARE" being build by Ford.It is the FORD 6 (in place of the Mazda 6) That IMHO gets its ***** busted. It is sad to see her leave her home,But with the Rouge plant the Oldest and largest automotive plant you cant blame Ford for making good use of the plant. The new (DTP) Dearborn Truck Plant will be able to build 9 different vehicles.Off of 3 different platforms I think they are making good use out of the old grounds.
