The correct course of action if your throttle gets stuck is to turn the engine off. Just back the key off to the OFF position, taking care not to turn it all the way back to the lock position so that you can still steer.
if you're too stupid to remember that, then feel free to push in the clutch or throw it in neutral and let your engine blow itself up. This is not a preferred solution since you risk oiling down your rear tires depending on what/where things come out the block
gearing down isn't going to help unless you throw it into a gear that allows your engine to way over rev and blow up, but since you're still leaving power connected to the wheels for the amount of time necessary to blow up, this is not preferred to either of the above.

Had that happen in my 04 a couple of times - it is potentially a real problem. However, instead of taking it to the dealer, I grabbed a razor knife and cut a small slit in the carpet where the pedal was hanging. Problem solved.

True, But I've heard stories of Engine Components flying through the Firewall before and taking people out. Probably /very/ rare, but the safest bet would be to shut the engine off.
What if you had a Rev Limiter? That'd Suck.

Throw in neutral, stop safely, turn it off. Will the engine blow if it revs at the limiter for 15 - 20 seconds?
