Ford Mustang’s glass roof option reappears for 2010, joined by GT Convertible

I'm confused as to whether this is a new option or not...says
"Since its introduction in 2008, the glass roof option – which is available as a $1,995 option on both the V6 model and the GT – has accounted for 10% of all Mustang sales."

Just in time for summer, Ford has added its panoramic glass roof option to its restyled 2010 Mustang Coupe alongside the convertible version of the V8-powered Mustang GT, both of which are now on sale in showrooms across the country.

The glass roof is made of tinted privacy glass and features a built-in manual roller blind. This tint makes the glass roof option ideal for those who love the sun but want to cut back on sunscreen use, as 90% of the sun’s harmful rays are filtered out.

The glass roof's ability to filter the rays also reduces heat load in the cabin so that occupants remain comfortable. Furthermore, the reflective glass also reduces energy used by the vehicle's air conditioner system while protecting the interior fabric from fading and deteriorating. Finally, to help improve acoustics and Mustang’s interior quietness the glass also features a layer of vinyl that reduces noise, vibration and harshness.

Since its introduction in 2008, the glass roof option – which is available as a $1,995 option on both the V6 model and the GT – has accounted for 10% of all Mustang sales. The convertible, on the other hand, accounts for 25% of Mustang sales, and sell most strongly in California, Florida, Texas and Georgia.

Other Blue Oval vehicles that feature the glass roof option include the 2010 Lincoln MKS and 2009 Ford Flex, Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX.

As for the GT Convertible, the car is based on the standard Mustang GT Coupe powered by a 4.6L V8 engine with 315hp and 325lb-ft of torque and matched to a five-speed automatic. For full details on the 2010 Mustang range, click here.

It just means that the new 2010 Mustang has not had that option available yet. You know, in the 3 months that the 2010 has been available.

They made it rather dramatic, when it isn't dramatic at all. The car just came out, for goodness sakes.

Gotcha...$2k for a glass roof? no wonder it only has 10% penetration! A convertible doesn't cost much more and you can open it...

Huge, actually.

Someone work this into a business case for Camaro T-Tops.

Hmmmm.. don't know how to take this?

There could have bee some compelling reasons not to offer a sunroof on the S-197 (head room could be one???) not the least of which, the glass roof will never suffer from water problems like a sunroof could.

Honestly I don't remember people really lamenting over no sunroof option when the S-197 debuted. T-tops recieved more attention IIRC.

Anywhosit, for folks living where it snows 363 days a year, the glass roof might just be the ticket for thier lack of vitamin-d

A sunroof can affect rigidity. The glass roof doesn't.

Plus, if I have a choice between a sunroof, and a vert............ it's going to be a vert. At least I get alot of neat, for the loss of rigidity.

In this case I think its a moot issue, the roof is pretty much just a skin over what amounts to a big hoop and cuttinga hole in the middle wouldn't effect things much, although properly bonded, the glass roof could add a fair amount of rigidity compared the standard roof (but jeez, how's this thing on Cg.)

I want to say it was first introduced on late 2008MY cars.

Frankly, I'd rather have a full glass roof than a sunroof, as I'm partial to the wide open view that t-tops or the targa roof provide. Test drove a G8 w/ the sunroof, and while it was nice, to me it was just too small.
