just pay the $1000 Nissan track use fee and it'll shut off.

if you felt the need to endanger others by going over the speed limit for your own safety, you should have been pulled over.

Ford's "MyKey" is slated to debut next year as a standard feature on the 2010 Ford Focus and will quickly become standard on many other Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles.

The ones who have to drive their parents car because their parents can't or won't buy them one of their own?

Been to a high school parking lot lately?

We're talking about teens borrowing their parents cars, btw... hence the separate keys.

This is dumb. Because you can't kill yourself and/or others at 80 mph, right?

You can do a lot more damage at 100+.

Your right. They should limit it to 60?

I think this will help limit street racing and dumb kids trying to show off. Not a bad idea

Each car can have up to 8 keys, and parents can set different parameters for each one. The settings can only be changed with the master key. Younger drivers can be prevented from deactivating the car's traction control system, making it all but impossible to spin the tires. Ford picked 80 mph because some parts of the country have speed limits above 70 mph. Parents can use MyKey to alert their children if they exceed a lower speed as well.

That's what great about this. It's still up to the parents. I don't see why anyone whould have a problem with this.

I don't think anyone complained about the daddy key on the ZR1, now it is just applying to more models. No problem here.

i don't quite understand why everyone on the internets have somehow managed to fixate on this one part of the story

it does more than limit the speed. not turning up the stereo till the seat belts are used is a HUGE thing yet no one even mentions it

there was a huge discussion about this story on slashdot and not once did i see anyone mention anything other than the 80mph speed limit and because of that alone the entire featureset is useless

While I think it's a good idea in theory, all you have to do is click in the seatbelt before you sit in the seat, and you've bypassed the feature.
