Ford increases Mustang pricing.

From Autoweek...

Ford raises F-150, Mustang prices

Last week it was Ford Division's turn to play the Big 3's favorite pricing game: If it's selling well, jack up the price. Stickers on the 2005 Mustang went up $50 to $175. Prices of the F-150 pickup, the industry's best-selling vehicle, rose $30 on 47 models and $210 on one, the SuperCab XLT 4x2 with 133-inch wheelbase. The Mustang and F-150 account for 25 percent of Ford Division's U.S. car and light-truck sales.

Nothing new or different here...

Some models from any given manufacturers can have one or more price increases during a model year.

I remember when I was shopping for the Monte SS a few years back, the dealer had about 7 SS's on the lot... between those 7, all 2002's... there were 3 different base prices on the stickers among the group.

Re: Ford increases Mustang pricing.

Higher MSRP means they can give you a bigger rebate and buyers think they will be getting a better deal.

Not just are they minor but if you dont want to pay it, can you see a dealer haggling over that amount of money?

Re: Ford increases Mustang pricing.

That is so miniscule, is it even worth printing? When I opened the thread I figured we were talking 300-400 at a minimum...but this? Who cares?!?!?!?

Darth is right...GM was notorious for changing prices DURING the model year, not just at the start of it. It began in 2001 as rebate mania was overtaking GM...I think you'll see that reduce now

I disagree. The 2005 GTO with 400HP is the best bang for the buck. What other car for an MSRP of 33K gives you that?

ya know a lot of comparos have gone the mustang way even with a slight(yes slight) performance win for the GTO.The mustang rides better,is more tossable and can be had for around $25,000 if you don't go for leather. The GTO dosen't give you that option.I will say the GTO is a way cool car and has much better back seat headroom. In fact, if there was no new mustang I would have a '05 GTO.

Re: Ford increases Mustang pricing.

Yeah, the increases aren't even worth mentioning. I'm surprised autoweek even printed it.

I'm not sure if you can compare the Mustang and '05 GTO directly for bang for your buck. A lot of it's going to depend on what type of styling you prefer. Personally, I think they are about even, depending on what you are looking for in a car.

Actually, if you're talking literally bang for buck...

Stang GT base package MSRP / HP:

approx 25000 / 300 = ~ $83 per HP

GTO MSRP / HP:

approx 33000 / 400 = ~ $83 per HP

Heh. Sorry couldn't resist.

Interesting that they come out the same. Coincidence of course!

Either are a good deal IMO, just depends what your styling preference is and if your pockets are deep enough for the GTO.

Re: Ford increases Mustang pricing.

Now if the upcoming RWD chevy coupe(I won't say Camaro at this time-LOL) has 400hp and comes in around 3500lbs or less and is close to mustang pricing and looks great also, we will have a new winner in the BFTB category!!!

Exclamation Re: Ford increases Mustang pricing.

$50-175 added to the retail price???

That comes out to an extra 83 cents to $2.92 per month over the next 60.

Guess some people might have to give up that extra pack of gum per month.

But when you add options like leather and other features the GTO has standard

Stang GT - 28000 / 300 = $93

Re: Ford increases Mustang pricing.

Lets be realistic here.

The Mustang is the best bang for the buck for the $25-30K price range. The GTO is the best bang for the buck for the $30-35K price range.

There, does that make everyone happy??? Probably not.

I think the reason that the Mustang GT is always mentioned as the best bang for the buck, is because of its low entry price. In other words, the person who can buy the $33K GTO, can opt to spend less money and buy the GT. However, the person who only has enough money to buy a GT, cannot buy a GTO. Another way of putting it, is that the GT's performance is more accessible to more people.
