Thumbs down Ford Focus recalled... again....

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...utos_ford_dc_1

You know, I understand than every manufacturer is going to have recalls... but this is number eleven for Focus.

And another reason why I scoff at Consumer Reports, who chose Focus to be one of their recommended U.S. cars...

Those recalls are all for the 2000 focus not the 2004.

2000-2001 for this one in particular... but, unless I am wrong, Consumer Reports has listed Focus as a Best Buy from year one or two of Focus... ???

My co-worker's 2001 caught on fire a couple of months ago. I think it was due to a wiring harness or something. I believe the dealership fixed hers free of charge.

Sucks for Ford, even though the new ones are good, the first years give the car a bad rap.

Despite all the recalls it has they are still selling very well. When I tell people not to by them because of all the recalls they say well it can't be that bad because x, y and z magazine says its a great car.
Its almost like its a honda the way everyone is overlooking these recalls

It is not a recall!

Geez, I know it's a GM board and Ford-bashing is a blast, but let's at least not make sh1+ up, OK?

It was on the NBC news 2 days ago... NOBODY KILLED OR EVEN INJURED, and only a handful of complaints.

From the very article you linked to...
QUOTE - "...not something the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (news - web sites) would officially record as a quality problem or recall."

C'mon guys, can we find something better to do?

Like maybe irritate the rag that decided the Toyota Prius is the 2004 Car of the Year while at the same time it is at the top of the "lemon-list" for bad quality? Now THAT we could have fun with.

OK Proud, you're normally pretty level headed, but what would you call it when Ford asks 671,000 Focus owners to being their car back to be fixed ???

Sounds like a recall to me. Perhaps a "voluntary recall", but a recall nonetheless.

"Chronic engine stalling" sounds like a problem to me.

And having a Ford spokesman actually use this quote as an excuse is laughable :

"The root cause of the problem we've discovered in North America progressively over time is the variability and unpredictability of the gasoline-petrol standards in North America."

So... why doesn't every other car have this problem too, if the gasoline is the problem

C'Mon... I am NOT Ford bashing... I am rolling my eyes are HORRIBLE problems that Focus is having, yet still getting praise freom some sources.

Sounds like a recall to you - that pretty much says it right there. So you start a thread claiming "FORD FOCUS RECALLED"... Could you have said "More problems for the Focus"? or "Focus foiled again"? or "Focus fuxed-up again"? I'd have no problems then - I couldn't argue a word. But your statement would imply to ANYONE reading it that there is an actual recall issued for the car, by NIHTSA, and something deadly serious is wrong with the car.
It's simply misleading.

No , I do not downplay the seriousness of the issue. It is a problem, and it is lame for any Ford guy to try and cover it up with some lame excuse about sh1++y fuel - all the other cars have to fill up at the same stations, right? At least it has gotten nobody hurt or killed, and it is an "inconvenience" problem at best (still bad IMO).

Lastly, I think Ford is doing a noble thing in fixing it on their own - without NIHTSA having to force them to do something. And, they are offering and ADDITIONAL 10-year warranty on the repair and related fuel system equipment after the repair - that ain't bad. At least it shows they are committed to the safety of the customer, and are standing behind their stuff (sh1++y as it may be ).

Again, my beef was with the claim made in the title of the thread, not the quality problem. No harm twingst you and me, just a difference in opinion between stating fact and "something subjective".

Moving on...

OK, can't argue this that... still... the definition of the word "recall" pretty much leaves me valid in the title... but, yes, I get your point... this was not a 'mandated' federal recall like the previous ten were... I apologize for any confusion.

I am going to kind of take fords side on this. At least they have the ***** to say we messed up and fix the car. It makes them look bad but it makes their customers happy to know that their car is fixed and that the company they bought it from is still standing behind them.

How many f-body owners in here have horrible or nonfunctional window motors? I’ve already replaced mine once in the past 3 years and it looks like I’m going to have to do it again. it’s a bitch of a job and I’m pissed that I’ve got to fork over another $300 and spend all weekend in the garage.

I know I’m not the only guy with this problem. Its obviously an engineering f*ck up. Ya think if GM cared they redesign the part and recall them. But no, I’ll just keep paying on average $100 a year to roll my windows up and down.

Ok…….Flame suit on….…….bring it!
