Is Ford ever gonna redo the Ranger?

They need to lay the current thing to rest....I think it dates to when Carter was president and really hasn't changed alot.....plus the V6 and 4 cylinder are anemic. I have heard 2008...if so they are gonna loose thier *** to GM's Colorado/Canyon.
I just bought one so I hope they hold off for at least a couple years, so jackasses don't say to me. "Why didn't you wait for the new one????"
Seriously, I read up on that before I bought it and it didn't look to be any sooner than '05.

HAHA...I wanted someone besides Darth and Proud Pony to argue with for once
Another slow news day guys?
Seriously though, you're right Branden, that thing dates back to 1982. In 21 years it's had 1 chassis, 2 bodies, and only about 3 front ends.
Ford seems determined to run that thing into the ground being that last year they cancelled the restyling that was supposed to happen next year or the year after.
Guess as long as sales stay up, they figure why bother.

Well its not un-modern looking...its reasonable fresh visually.
Could use some more modern powerplants, but other than that, what's to change on a truck chassis really? Basic front and rear suspension isn't going to change much.
I agree its older than dirt but if it sells and the capital investment has been recouped, why not continue to sell it (are you listening GM? *cough*fbody*cough*)
How long did the Olds Cutlass Ciera sell for? It was from 1982 to like 1996..and when they killed it, it was Olds' best selling car. It appealed to old people and that's why they killed it, LOL.

I'd say that compact trucks are a relatively low priority in the automotive business. The profits are in full-sized pickups, and I'm not sure any model in a compact truck line is really a "demand" vehicle. They're good for getting entry level buyers financed, but otherwise...
I can understand why some people think that the Ranger will be at a serious disadvantage with the new Colorado/Canyon coming to market, but I don't think its that big a deal. The Colorado doesn't raise the bar in terms of dimensions, and it is actually regressing when it comes to torque. (If it hadn't been for Isuzu's design capacity and the overseas sales potential, I'm not sure the S-10 would have had an all-new replacement, at least not anytime soon.) Now, if the Colorado/Canyon had been true midsized trucks with a V8 option, much like the Dodge Dakota, Ford would have had a huge reason to redesign the Ranger, pronto!

here is one undercover sorta speak Click me for a ranger with big breasts!!(It needs a bra<Well I thought it was funny!)
Aren't the Ranger and Explorer off the same platform? Probably not but they have shared styling for the last decade. With the Explorers new redesign, wouldn't it be easier if it passed on to the Ranger as well? What gives?
