Ford Edge and engine options...

Is the Edge and its sister cars going to have any other enginer than the 3.5? I'm kind of suprised if it wouldn't.

Why? What larger engine would they use?

I'd guess that the Lincoln variant could get an upgraded DI version of that engine first. Then maybe some sort of turbo, assuming that they think the Edge needs more power.

It's on the table, but I doubt it will happen.

I just find it weird that in the day of every car needs to have engine options, that these crossovers don't have one. It doesn't matter if it is bigger or smaller.

Actually, there are several crossovers that have no engine options. People buy these things for utility, not speed. Of course, people don't want underpowered vehicles, so most of these things are capable of mid-16 1/4 mile times(would have been a high performance vehicle in 1982).

You may see the twin turbo 3.5L being offered in this vehicle (the Twin Force V6). It is going to be used extensively in the Ford line, including use in the F150 even.

Current testing on the engine is putting it at 415-420hp, although I imagine they will tailor the engines characteristics, and power, to the application.

A twin turbo 6-cyl in a full sized truck sounds a little unlikely to me.

LOL, I understand. However, that is what some people in the know (on BON) have said.

I would think that it would be workable, if tuned differently from car applications.

I think that you really haven't seen things like this used in trucks because, honestly, they are considered to be fairly exotic. With economies of scale (to bring down the price), this could be a good way to get upper end V8 power, and better fuel economy, all in one small, light, package.

I guess we will have to see. The engine should be out in vehicles within the year.
