Ford cutting another 3000 jobs!!
Ford cutting another 3000 jobs!!
Its looks like Ford is still cutting cost and announced it the same day the United Auto Workers had ratified new contracts with Ford and Visteon Corp. that lets Ford close four plants employing nearly 4,600 people over the next four years - http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/bre...930&ID=2909967
quote:
"Ford Motor Co. will cut some 3,000 salaried jobs by releasing 1,700 contract workers and eliminating 1,300 vacant jobs in a bid to slash costs by the end of the year, the company told employees on Tuesday.
The cuts are part a drive at the world's second-largest automaker to meet its profit forecasts despite higher-than-expected costs from Detroit's ongoing price wars.
Mostly because of incentives now averaging roughly $3,700 per vehicle sold in the United States, Ford has already been forced to raise its cost-cutting target for this year to $2.5 billion just to hit its earnings estimate of 70 cents a share, or roughly $1.3 billion. "

So the next time you get in your just purchased new German or Japanese car or truck, pat yourself on the back and say, "I knew supporting another country would wreck my own."
Buy American.

I find it hard to believe that Ford could be so bloated that they can afford the loss of 3000 people !
Goddam, that's a lot !
Think any of the higher execs are taking pay hits, or worried (now) about their jobs ?
And it's not just Ford by any stretch of the imagination - U.S. corps all over have this mentality of cost cutting by employee chopping.
HMM - ever wonder why you deal w/ dumbases ? It's probably because they were all new & therefore cheaper to employ than the more experienced people that were there before.
Like I said, if this pain was shared all the way thru the ivory towers I'd buy into it a little - as it stands now, no.
Think about the ripple affect caused by lost purchases that potentially would have been made by those 3000 people ...
ARRGGH !!!!

I hope that whenever Ford gets out of the S#*TWHOLE that they are in, those people will get their jobs back.
The amount of layoffs in this country during the past couple of years is rediculous and uncalled for.
I've watching Lou Dobb's moneyline on CNN the past couple of weeks and they're doing a series of stories called "Exporting America" or something like that.
Manufacturing jobs are being lost to 3rd world countries just so that these companies don't have to pay health benefits, high wages and other things.
American workers should be paid health benefits, and good wages. These CEO's are getting paid millions of dollars just to sit in their offices on their asses and send all of their manufacturing overseas.
Now their is talk about expanding NAFTA, what a disaster that will be. Now instead of building factories in Mexico, you can build it in colombia. ...

Another thing that pisses me off are those companies that move their home offices out of the country so that they don't have to pay taxes. Yet they still call themselves an american company. I want to give those CEO's a piece of my mind.
The government needs to stop worrying about other countries economies and worry about ours. They should tell the chinese government to go to hell. It may be a up and coming market, but it shouldn't be the first priority for our government. They are already stealing some of our patents and copyrights and calling it their own. That's BullS@$T
Sorry about the double post.
I had to rant.

WTF is a "vacant job" ?!?
Sounds like 1,700 contract employees are the only real losses....

This recession is not a recession for the wealthy - they're not affected by gas costing $2 a gallon. By health care premiums going up 20% a year. By the cost of winter heating going through the roof.
The whole political/corporate system is rotten to the core and so it's just gonna get worse.... until we have very little left here and it's all outsourced. Not 'cos it has to be this way, but because it benefits the pockets of the greedy. "Trickle down theory"... my f**king a$$.

Yes, but there are other benefits to Foreign companies making cars here. Aside from the jobs at the plants, which are very important. A large majority of the content of the vehicles is local. I think Camry had 85% of it's parts produced in the U.S.. So it's not all bad compared to the cars that are clearly produced somewhere else.
Of course you always have to be aware that the 4th gen F-bods were made in Quebec. It's not European or Japanese, but it's not U.S. either.
On an off point....Bush raised tariffs on imported steel (yes, a little out of character for him) not long after he came to office to help support the domestic steel producers. While he did help those companies, the end result was an increase in steel prices accross the board which hurt buyers and most likely cost us jobs and profits in other places. It's not always so black and white.

When I heard all those #'s on CNN about people being laid off before it didn’t really affect me. Now I really feel for them. They have a hard time ahead of them. I was lucky my Dad kind of knew it was coming and we had money put aside. Many people might not be as lucky as my family was.
