First American built hybrid available now

Escape Hybrid Article

Seems to me this can only be a good thing for Ford. There's only a $3000 or so premium over a similarly equiped non-hybrid Escape. Considering the tax break you get from the Feds and some states (not mine), you can make that money up and get 40 mpg in CITY driving. It's also the first SUV hybrid which makes it that much more appealing in today's market. Ford is only going to produce about 20,000 but I have a feeling they will get many more orders than that.

Silverado

Not until this fall BTW, the system they're using is partial hybrid and less efficient than what Toyota or Ford is using. It's all in the article. And yes, 5.3L.

Edit: From the GM link it says, "Offered only in CA, OR, WA, AK, NV and FL. Quantities are limited." Those must be the green states I wonder what limited quantities is? At least they're the first to offer a pickup truck, though I wonder how many people would buy it over a SUV or car Pickup people might not be as interested in it, they've got a certain mindset, but who knows, it might be popular.

The Silverado I guess was the actual first production hybrid...but its only been produced for commercial and fleets so far. I think its going to be offered to the general public in a few months.

But yea, the Escape is a full-hybrid. Glad to see this hitting the SUV market finally...if this hits pretty well then I'll stop bitching about SUV's without dirt or stuff in the back so much
