Yet another opportunity has slipped through GM's fingers.

This is the same diesel to be released in the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, supposedly a 30mpg hwy rating with 4x2, 28 with 4x4. 7400lb towing capacity too.

If this engine is available in some of the cheaper models I might have to consider a Chrysler product for the first time in my life.

GM has been a reactive, not proactive, company for decades now. Why should we expect anything different.

There goes any chance of GM potentially claiming best mpg with the new 4.3L V6. The most they could hope for with a 6 speed auto is high 20s.

I'm with you on that one.

Considering that the Cherokee V6 with the 8sp will also get 25mpg, its pretty safe to assume the diesel Ram will also be right around 30mpg.

x2

How many times on this forum alone have we stressed that there is market brewing that wants a high MPG diesel?

weren't the numbers on the 4.5L GM V8 around 300hp & 520ft-lbs back in 2008? I wonder what a 5 year newer version might make?

Re: Finally - A 1/2 Ton Diesel...

Anything more would be too much and kill the mpg. A V6 diesel is much better suited to a 1/2 ton.

There's still time for Ford or Chevy to offer a V6 TD in a full size SUV. And no, the Jeep GC doesn't count as one of those.

I'd buy a 30+mpg Expedition or Tahoe tomorrow morning.

They have the Durango for that. Its the same platform so they could easily throw the diesel in there also.

Durango and Grand Cherokee are basically the same size. He is talking about a full size SUV.
