A few SS, Grand Prix, and finally Camaro items.
First off, I completely agree with all of you, 2009 is far too long to wait for a new camaro... but then again if when it does come back and it is a bad a$$ motherF###ER, how many of you can truely say you wont trade in your Mustand GT(or whatever your driving) for one? I plan on getting me a supra if they come back... but like i said, if the camaro does come back and blows me away, I am gonna have to get it... I mean damn, how long has the charger been out of the game, yet how many of you are anticipating its comeback? Or the GTO... well actually I was really anticipating it until I saw that it was just a Grand Am with different badges... I hope the person that posted this is just misinformed though, or something. Although, it would make sense since GM hasnt given us any hint as to whats going on...they are probably going to wait till 2006 or 2007 to break the news to us! HEY GM!! THROW US A FREAKING LINE!!

why isn't chevy developing a platform for the camaro that the SS can piggy back on. the camaro has just as much heritage as the corvette and means just as much to the people that have them and some that don't.
I think the camaro should have first choice at a new platform over some concept SS.
2009 is to late c'ya GM
I think everybody has had enough of manufacturers telling us what we want to buy,
start building us what we tell you we want to buy

The newer Grand Prix is till based off the existing one right? Finally, they are letting that SC'd 3800 get some decent power... Are they going to be mated with a beefier transmission?
Lutz is finally getting the GM mothership pointed in the right direction. Looks like all this talk about RWD is becoming a reality!
They are going to have to put out top notch products with a big splash. Lets hope they can make a turn around like how VW and Audi did.
For all you people that are moving off to other brands, when the exciting stuff does come out, check it out at least.

Wow, when I wrote the press release for the 2009 Camaro, I was only joking.
Hmm . . . GM computers that report on your driving habits.
GM daytime lights!
GM crappy interiors.
And now, a 6 year wait for (maybe) a new Camaro.
Count me out. I'm done.

Couple of things to clear up here.
First, for Darth, this upcomming Grand Prix is basically a restyling, therefore not as expensive to do as an entirely new car. GM has had an annoying recent habit of running their cars into the ground w/o any investment. I get a feeling that's gonna change soon.
Second, for those angry at the timeframes, the guesses regarding the Camaro were conservative. As mentioned, could be shorter as GM streamlines development time. Some time ago Branden posted here that redplanet said Camaro could be back at 2006 at the absolute earliest. Basically, the info I scraped together echoed that. 2005-2008 CY (2006-2009 year), most likely somewhere in the middle. Nothing new here.
Third, although there is precident for Camaro comming out before the car it is based on (the 1st gen & the Nova), back then Mustangs were selling about 400,000 cars per year. Today, performance sedans are big selling cars and where the profits are in the automotive side. So naturally they have priority. It's also what's paving the way for the 5th gen Camaro (& Monte Carlo as well).
Just a guess, but if Mustang sales shot straight up, and the upcomming cars become fast sellers, I suspect priorities might change.

I remember a thread a few months ago where we were speculating on when the Camaro would come back.
Most everybody here picked 2004-2006.
I, on the other hand, said 2008-2010.
It doesn't surprise me that it will take GM that long to get the car out. I've followed GM's corporate doings for years. They're just not a fast acting company. That, plus the car is just not a priority right now.
I bet we see a CONCEPT in 2008 or 09 with the real car in showrooms around 2010.
It really doesn't matter to me however, as there most likely will not be a Firebird variant anyways.

So the question is.....in the next 5+ years where is the enthusiast supposed to find a $20k - $25k V8, RWD, 2 door performance car?
With the Mustang selling around 115k(??) units per year X five+ years......is GM going to give Ford well over a half million sales??!! Oh sure some 6 cyl. owners will by GP's, Monte's etc....I'd guess some former SS owners might buy a GTO.... but I guess the rest of us are just plain SOL.....time for that used C5....GM doesn't get a dime of that though.....

Another item I found out today. When produced, the SS won't be called Impala which is supposed to continue as FWD.

Hey, quick - everybody name the last GM *CAR* they saw on the cover of a magazine other than the CTS, Camaro, or Corvette...

If it breaks, it wasn't high performance enough.
2001 Mustang Bullitt GT
2000 Jetta M5
With all the nice cars comming out soon, looks like I am going to be in heaven!!!!!
decisions, decisions...
No GM you say?
Looks like I will have to go elsewhere. Maybe in 10 years when a new Camaro comes out I will get that.....maybe not....I may be sold on the quality of my next car's manufacture. Maybe I'll come back, maybe I wont. Can GM really afford to take that bet?
......and GM's market share continues to plummit!!!

Hopefully the competition of all the new pony cars and their sales will make GM speed up their efforts to make the 40th, maybe I'm just dreaming. But if it takes til '09, and it kicks mustang tail, ill trade in whatever I have for it. GM is just a little slow.... but when they get it right they get it right. I'd rather see a dominate Camaro in '08 then a loser in '05. It just would be nice if GM would let us know a bit more, to help keep faith in them which is becoming extremely difficult.
