Familier with those threads on pricing? --->>>

....as I mentioned in one of them, our local Chevy dealer (RK in Va Beach) likes to mark things up. A week and a half ago, their C6s were marked up $20k. This morning I stopped by to take a pic or two, and as luck would have it, they had them 'marked down' to only $10k over sticker today. Imagine that.

$62.7k
$62.1k
Foggy Morning at RK

FYI...this same dealer had 2004 Z06's marked up by $20k ($70k+). When shopping for either a used Z06 or new Cobra this past summer, I looked at an 18k mile 2003 Z06 they had on their used lot - they wanted $45k.

It will be interesting to see what Ford dealers do when the 06/07 Cobra comes out. I have little doubt we'll see some dealers mark them up $5k or more. There will be idiots out there that pay it, too.

Which, of course, is exactly why they do it. One idiot gives them the same profit as 10+ hard-won sales. Hey, might as well try it!

Remeber that dealer markups can absolutely kill the sales of a car(2004 GTO).

Dealer mark ups did not kill GTO sales, It took making the car $26k with incentives to get them to sell like they should be. The car still wouldn't sell for sticker. There were plenty of dealers that would not mark up an msrp and no one wanted it. So I guess the Vette should be doing terribly since alot of dealers are marking them up? Oh if you go to the vette board , there are dealers there that are starting their ZO6 list at msrp. Lets see how well the 400hp hood scooped, new exhaust GTO sells with no incentives and a price increase. My guess is still below their 20k 04 sales expectations, especially with the new Mustang out.

Bob, how many Chevy dealers are in the area? I know alot of small dealers will mark up a car just to keep it in the showroom for a while. Like if they only get 1 or 2 vettes a year and if that magical sucker comes along they all get a good laugh as he pulls out of the lot with his $10k over sticker Vette.

There are two in Va Beach, and 9 in the Tidewater area. RK is actually one of the biggest. They have a history of marking up cars (including Camaros when they had them), so I guess they can sell em regardless. They probably make their customer's a "good deal" by taking off half the markup. LOL.

Eh, I'm not surprised by this at all. If any company could, they would want you to walk into the dealership with a price stamped on your forehead saying what the maximum amount you're willing to pay will be for that car. The dealer would then charge you $1 less than that listed amount. Since we all don't tell a dealer how much we're willing to spend and setting prices for individuals is highly illegal, they set these markups to try to find the consumers with the highest demand for the Corvette, then cut the price in the future to sell the the customers with a not so high demand.

With an awesome car such as the C6, I'm not surprised at all by a $20,000. Some people out there with roo much money will be more than willing to pay that. It's just standard business practice.

FYI....my little Sunday drive by the dealerships this morning produced the following results:

One of the local Ford dealers (Beach) STILL has no GTs (though they do have a 2005 Roush - no doubt stupidly priced). However, the other down the road (Kimnach) had three. All were A5s, all were marked up $2995. Sad.

One of the local Pontiac dealers (Hall) had no GTOs, while the other (Perry) had three. All were M6s. None had dealer mark-ups (pleasantly surprised), though they did have that silly dealer "prep" stuff (Undercoating, interior protection, etc) that added ~$600.

It was also my first opportunity to get close to a new 05 Goat. The rear of the car looks MUCH better than the 04, in my opinion. Front still doesn't do it for me (but that is an opinion too). The interior was really, really, really nice - nicer than I thought it would be, and I'd say nicer than the 05 GTs I looked at too). My only gripes with this car continue to be styling (mostly the front) and its heft (which may sound ironic, being that I have an 04 Cobra).

I love the GTO interior, I havent seen an '05 yet but I'd like to see one with the body kit with the different front and the recessed grilles.

The new Mustang styling is growing on me, but I can't stand the retro interior. The dash looks terrible IMO.
