F5 vs. C5?

Will/should the 5th gen be quicker than the C5?

I can see the C5 easily taking the cornering contest but............should the F5 be faster?

The 4th gen Fbody (LT1) is a tad slower than the later model 4th Vette.........

What'ya think?

NO!!!!!!!!!!!

the corvette has always been the fastest car in GM's lineup (with the exception of 1970 LS6 chevelle) and it should remain that way. no way in hell should GM make the camaro faster than the vette.

Well, of course GM won't do that for a current generation. But the question was referring to a future Camaro being faster than a past generation Corvette. Some will say the LS1 F-bodies were already pretty close when they were out simultaneously.

A 3400+ lb. Camaro is not going to handle as well as the C5; it should certainly be competitive with the new Mustang. I could envision it running quarter-mile times that approach the LS1 Corvette, though. Considering what engines should be available (at least 400hp LS2), it seems entirely possible that a new Camaro could approach low 13's. I hope it also surpasses the C5's interior quality. All of that would make for a nice package.

With so much emphasis on handling in cars now-adays, I don't see why Corvettes team would be so hard up about Camaros straight line #'s approaching the C6's.

Um, have you guys been in the dark for the last few years or something?? The LS1 Camaros already do run the same as LS1 'Vettes! I believe the fastest verified time for a 100% bone-stock 2002 Camaro SS was something like 12.89 @ ~109 mph (I can't remember the speed, but I know it was 12.89). Due to their IRS (independent rear suspension) 'Vettes aren't 1/4 mile kings.....F-bodies are easier to hook up for drag racing, and since the power of the LS1 "technically" didn't change much between the F-body or the 'Vette, then the Camaro never really was "slower" than the 'Vette in the first place.

As for the 5th-gen Camaro vs. a C5? Well, as long as they get the LS2, then it's game over for the LS1 powered C5!!!

Just FWIW, I even saw a 405HP Z06 run 13.2's down the 1/4 mile. Maybe there was some driver error going on, but point being, they've never been the best "dragster".

Though limited production.. don't forget the 1989 Turbo Trans Am.

Yeah, I read that article. 11.97 @ 118 mph! I believe that was with a pair of sticky tires of some sort though?

Re: F5 vs. C5?

When you get down to it the Vette's haven't always been faster... look at the very first ZL-1, not the new one, Now the Dick Harrell cars "Mr Chevrolet" yea, but they only made 50 of those. Not to forget the Yenko's for you first gen guys. GM didn't start making it to where the Vette was always undoubtedly the fastest car untill the 70's....77 I think, there was a big stink about people paying so much more money for a Vette only to have there *** handed to them on the street by the same year Z. The Vette was always the sports car icon though.

He said C5 not C6, so then do you think the next Camaro should be faster than the 205HP C4 Vette?

C5 is 3200lbs. and 350HP. it does the 1/4mi. in 13.0. I'd like the next top Camaro to have the LS2 and be just under 3400lbs. so yes the top Camaro should be faster than the base C5

The LS1 4th-gens were already there (low 13's). At the very least, the top model needs to be in the 12's imo.

Name one logical, reasonable, sane, credible, articulate reason why on earth a relatively cheap performance car should be quicker than the more expensive sports car sitting in the same showroom.

Corvette should be Chevrolet's top performer. PERIOD!!

If Pontiac or Buick or Cadillac come up with something quicker, that's fine. At least it's not sitting in the same showroom.

From what I hear, the Z28 should hand the C5 its **** in a road coarse.
WHAT? A full-book SS with all the suspension toys will run neck and neck with a light-optioned Corvette and hand a Z28 on smaller tires a righteous bludgeoning. A Z06 will show ANY stock Camaro taillights in a BIG hurry.

There were issues early on with C5's and F4's being so close in road course performance as to make for some really embarrassed folks on the Corvette team...

The Z06 put a stop to all that nonsense REAL QUICK.

Corvette ZL-1 vs. Camaro ZL-1 = dead Camaro.
