Erm.... Looks like Settlemire is doing the hp ratings for GM again...

Apparently Mr. Cobalt SS here is clocking in a bit north of the ***AHEM*** "Official" Chevrolet rated 205hp at the crank, ladies and gents... and I'm thinking the airfilter ain't helping that a whole bunch.

230ish? 235ish?

Dynojet, may or may not be corrected.

More info as time allows.

It says SAE on the sheet so it should be SAE corrected.
Quite amazing
Hmm, what excuse can I come up with to "need" another car

insurance is one reason some people aren't able to get certain cars. and the rating has alot to do with it for newer model cars

I'm not worried about the need part for me, its forking out the cash. My LT1 needs work done to it

Very impressive.

Anyone seen a stock dyno? It's underrated either way, but i'm pretty curious as to how they dyno stock.

It was be easier to actually care about the Cobalt SS if the 2005 Mustang GT didn't exist. The 2005 Mustang GT does exist and the Cobalt SS will soon be forgotten.

I should also mention that I somehow doubt that the Mustang GT only puts out "300 horsepower."

My thinking as well. They're two different beasts.

Actually, they strapped a brand new (few weeks old, couple thousand miles) GT to the dyno (800 yards from my house). It layed down 263 hp and 281 ft lbs (I know it was 263 hp, the torque number may be slightly off, but it was under 300 ft lbs, and 281 sticks in my head). So, in fact, it appears to only make about 300 hp. Ford didn't lie.

Cobalt SS, is...by far...the most fun to drive FWD Chevy....since the Beretta GTZ. Actually, more fun than the GTZ.

As it stands, it's the 2nd funnest car to drive in Chevy's whole lineup and it's 2nd only the vette. I know that says alot of about the Cobalt SS, but it also says alot about the void left by the camaro .

To hear him tell it, everyone and their brothers freinds are considering a mustang.

Red gives the average car buyer to much credit for 'new car knowledge' in my opinion. [/daily mustang GT nut hugging hijack nonsense]

I hope the Cobalt really takes off against the Civic and other small cars in its size, price, and power level.

That's like saying the Mustang has made the SRT-4 Neon forgotten....or the WRX....or the Evo....a "smart" man like yourself would understand these two cars play in different markets right? Or that, realistically, one has to pay about 5 or $6,000 more for the GT.....

Re: Erm.... Looks like Settlemire is doing the hp ratings for GM again...

yea, i'm personally sick of hearing the argument for cross-shopping a gt with a cobalt ss
one is fwd 4banger and the other is a n/a v8 rwd car
second, like said above, there is a definate price difference
once the gt gets loaded it approaches 29 grand or something right?
the cobalt ss is already loaded for 22k
