Email from GM: Saturn owners get $1000 cash back on a new GM purchase through June 1.

Because I bought an '09 Saturn Aura, they're offering $1000 purchase cash or $500 lease cash if I buy a new GM car by June 1. There's a website, saturnmatchmaker.com, which lets you pick your favorite Saturn model and then recommends Buicks, Chevrolets, Cadillacs, and GMCs that they think you might also like.

Did any Pontiac owners get a similar email? There's no pontiacmatchmaker.com, but pontiac.com offers the same deal to Pontiac owners.

I clicked on the Sky, Astra, and Aura to see what they were recommending.

Sky:
Camaro
Corvette coupe
Corvette convertible
CTS

Astra:
Aveo sedan
Aveo5
Cobalt coupe
Cobalt sedan

Aura:
Malibu
Lacrosse
Impala
CTS

The recommendations for Aura I get -- those are pretty good choices. But are they serious about offering a Corvette or a CTS as an alternative to a $20k Sky? That's absurd. And to claim that Aveo or Cobalt were anywhere near as sophisticated as Astra is just going to do more damage to the reputation Astra never got a chance to develop.

I guess I'm still ticked that in the process of killing off Pontiac and Saturn, they didn't re-badge the best models of those brands into one of the four remaining brands. A renamed and slightly reskinned Sky/Solstice would have been a nice addition to the Chevy lineup, and I would have replaced Aveo with Astra.

I received something similar except it was in the mail. Basically, thanking me for buying a Pontiac and offering me either $1000 or $1500 to buy any Cadillac, GMC, Buick or Chevy.

I got the same. Seems like a waste though. If they're sending these out to people that just bought cars most people (I just got an 09 Vibe) aren't going to be interested in another purchase any time soon.

I am however enjoying the free oil changes, tire rotations, and inspections for a year.

Is it really ANY Chevy?

I get those Chevy loyalty coupons in the mail for like $1000 or so off, but it always excludes stuff like the Camaro and Corvette's.

No:

1) Excludes 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain and Cadillac SRX. Take delivery from dealer stock 4/1/10-6/1/10. See dealer for details. Must provide proof of current ownership or lease of a Saturn vehicle and you must have owned/leased the vehicle for at least six months. Customer is not required to trade in their qualifying vehicle. Not available with some other offers. On GMAC SmartLease contracts, this allowance must be utilized to reduce the capitalized cost of the amount to finance through the GMAC SmartLease contract. On GMAC SmartLease contracts, this offer may not be offered as cash to the customer. Other restrictions may apply. See your dealer for details.

My sister didn't get a letter, but as the current owner of a Grand Prix she got an extra $1,000 in rebates on her new 2010 Malibu she's picking up Monday night.

As much as she wanted to buy a car from me, she got a $25k MSRP Malibu for invoice - $4,000 in rebates - $3,500 in GM card points my dad gave her = $16,500 :wow:

Helluva nice car for $16,500...can't imagine GM made any money on that one...

Isn't "$1,000" CRAP compared to the hit you'll take on trade in value because the brands no longer exist?

Yeah...

but at the same time, If I was working and not in school wife and I woudl be looking for a car for her, and most likely woudl be a GM do to this rebate.

Not sure if its to entice people to upgrade there defunct manufacturer car so much as buy another GM.
