Edmunds Full test of 2007 Tundra Double Cab 4x4

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=119089

"Unleashing this powertrain down the drag strip, we recorded a stunning 0-60-mph time of 6.3 seconds, while the quarter-mile came up in 14.8 seconds at 93.7 mph."

Pretty damn quick for a 4x4 DOUBLE CAB!
oh, mind you, Edmunds often has slow 0-60 & 1/4 mile times during their testing.

I think it looks decent, and it hauls butt.

GM needs to put the 6.2L from the Caddy Escalade into their Pickup trucks to compete w/ this.

Impressive numbers, but to me it's butt ugly and the interior doesn't look very nice either. I don't think I'd pick the Tundra if I was looking at full size trucks.

geez, I love the new silverado....but this makes one think twice....I guess we'll have to see when GM gets their 6 speed auto in the trucks....

I still don't quite understand the image of a quick truck. I know all about the Lightning and Dodge Ram V10, etc. I mean, a truck is a utility vehicle, albeit used for a car in about 95% of the time. But, a super fast 1/4 in a truck is still a truck and seems out of place. Seems to me that a real fast truck is essentially dangerous, with the high COG and weight and all.

I don't know, I guess I'd rather go 13.0 in a Z28, than a Ford Lightning. Whatever..

The interior looks like two people worked together to design the dash, then got angry at each other and parted ways, and not quite finishing their ideas.... then someone else came in, picked up the pieces and slammed it together.

I'm a little partial for column shifters and bench seats in my trucks too

If GM would roll out the 6 speed auto's on more of models, I bet the performance gap will be drastically reduced.

Well, this isn't fast because it's meant to be a sport truck, it's fast as a result of having a great powertrain.

Same reason a new Caddy Escalade is fast.

You don't NEED a fast truck, but it sure is a nice side effect of having a nice engine/trans. And when you are driving that truck w/o anything in it, it won't have you dreaming of your sport sedan, etc.

Also, if you think a Ford Lightning has a high COG, or poor handling, etc, then you've never been in one.

Also. . .

They DO have a bench seat available, with a center section that folds down to look/feel/act like a giant center console, best I've seen yet.

It does look like 2 different designers created the interior, but it seems like most of the people on this board are too brand loyal, and blind to any other decent products. They're looking for BS Reasons to rip on these trucks.

If GM had a full size quad cab 4x4 truck that ran those numbers, EVERYBODY on this board would be going nuts over it.

And the guy complaining about 4.30 gear ratios hurting mileage!? WTF, 4:30s with a 6spd auto, and 32" tires is probably similar to an Auto 4th Gen Fbody having 3.23's.

IF, and I say IF it hurts mileage, it'll probably only hurt it 1mpg compared to the non-tow ratio. And I bet that 1mpg worse is on the highway, not the city.

Toyota did well but looks like GM already has an answer. That Tundra is ugly as hell though. I am at a loss of words about the interior.
What if the Tundra was able to pull more, accerate faster while pulling more, etc?
I dunno, what if?
does

A cool thing to think about is how if you compare two trucks, one being able to tow 100 more lbs is nothing but semantics in a buyers mind, when there is such a large difference in their accelerations.

You can get a 6 speed auto with the Duramax, the best engine currently in a pickup.

OMG the center stack looks horrible, I've seen the pics. of thedash before but not any close up shots. It truely looks worse than I imaged. Whats with the placement of those dials, one of them is placed right between where the dash changes colors between trim.
