13 Chrysler workers fired

Chrysler fired 13 workers in the wake of last week's drinking-and-pot-smoking expose:

These guys are now fired.

Having worked in BMW's factory here in SC I can tell you I never saw anything like that tolerated when I was there. I remember them walking people out of the building that had just been terminated and taking their leased vehicle and having to get a friend or family member to pick them up since they suddenly didn't have a ride anymore. I've also seen newbies reduced to tears and quitting after a few hours in the body shop "grind booth".

Not surprising, many of the comments seem to express this isn't a big deal. It's done elsewhere so that somehow gives justification to the Chrysler workers. I wonder if these people realize how asinine they sound?

Well that's pretty much the mentality of this country on just about everything these days, make excuses for bad behavior to try and make it acceptable to a degree. Thus more bad behavior becomes accepted and tolerated.

Well what did you expect them to do after all of the media coverage? No surprise there.

I want to know how long it was going on since apparently based on the call in shows and news comments left that there was plenty of people defending them. That tells me that this is likely more common place than we think.

The impression I get from some of the clowns defending these fools are people who are now annoyed they might not be able to drink a few brews and toke up on their lunch/break. I bet alot of defenders are those who have done the same activities yet haven't been caught yet.

I'm not sure how anyone would trust buying a vehicle made from this plant now that we know what happens to go on.

That's the first thing I thought of when I saw your post, how long before the union gets them back in.

Well to be frank, this isn't just a Chrysler problem, they just got caught. I'm sure its just as widespread with all of the vehicle manufacturers (gasp... even the holy ones at Toyota!) To think otherwise certainly falls under "ignorance is bliss".

While it very well may happen in other companies, it remains speculation until someone comes forward with definitive proof like we saw in the video(s). He said, she said will not cut it.

In this case, Chrysler should be scrutinized very closely because it needed government charity in order to survive. My tax dollars had to go to a company run by morons producing crap. I stand by my thoughts. Who would buy a Chrysler product after seeing who is assembling these vehicles? For me this is just the icing on the cake.

Basically the grind room is where you are fully suited up and have the face sheilds and all on, this is where you grind off the slag and sharp edges on the car, it's hot as hell in that booth and little pieces of metal are flying everywhere and the line is moving. Easy to get hurt and lots of bad angles on your body. A lot of people just couldn't hack it more than an hour before they quit. 2 guys walked out in tears. Had a buddy that worked in there a lot and went to the eye doctor complaining about his vision being blurry and seeing little spots. Found out he had small microscopic pieces of metal stuck in his eyes.

VERY perceptive, Guido!

Maybe upgraded to managerial/union positions.

Best of health and longevity,

Steve

I highly doubt these clowns would have made it through Toyota's hiring processes. Toyota does not tolerate such bull**** from employees, and they also goto great lengths to try and not layoff employees.

In any event, you can use this instance of drug abuse at a Chrysler plant to demonize the company and its products, but I'm tell'n ya, if anybody cared to look hard enough from Chrysler, GM, and Ford on down to thier component suppliers. Its not an isolated problem.
