I'd assume 5th considering GM's quote, which says the Z06 does 0-60 in 3.7? seconds.. all in first gear.

well cause some people think that the 6 speed in the z06 could probably been better geared (and perhaps hit 200 mph) if they used all 6 gears to hit top speed, instead of cut 6th as an overdrive..

It probably wouldn't have achieved as amazing of gas milage as it is rated for without that super tall overdrive. Personally I think any car with 6 gears or more should have one dedicated to comfortable economical cruising... even sports cars. My GS400 will shift into 5th gear (5 speed auto) when cruising, as early as 30-35mph. Makes having 5 gears seem like a waste, especially when I'm doing just under 2k rpm @ 60mph when I could be doing something more like 1500 rpm and saving on gas milage. I almost never have to downshift for passing, which I'd gladly be willing to do in exchange for lower rpm highway cruising.
