Does Holden know how to make a ponycar?
Re: Does Holden know how to make a ponycar?
I think if the guidelines were laid out , Holden , more than anyone within GM could pull it off . They better have John Heinrecy's butt in the drivers seat heading up the chassis tuning though

Does GM-NA know how to make a pony car?
I am willing to bet a lot of people who worked on the F-Car have been bought out by now. Scott obviously knows what one should be...same for Lutz and Welburn..but they are leaders. It is up to them to insure the engineers and designers further down the chain to interpret their vision.
Aside from the Vette, Holden likely has many more years of recent RWD design experiance on it's staff than GM-NA. So I feel they are as competent as anyone. Also, if you believe some, it is GM NA that messed up the Holden VE with rediculous requirements. Either way...whether or not the grunt design work is done here, or Detriot....you can bet the vision and management of the program will come from Detroit.
Either way...No matter who engineers it, as long as the vision and oversight from management is correct, all should be okay.

Does the Torana count (original). Small car with a V8 engine....thats the blue print yeah?
I don't know who John Heinrecy is but they have some half decent test drivers in Australia. Check this Mark Skaife video testing a HSV Clubsport

Re: Does Holden know how to make a ponycar?
I thought Monaro was our pony car?
IMO (however biased it seems) is that Holden have shown GM what a modern pony car should be about... it's not a low slung vehicle like C6 but a well packaged 4-seater with lots of style and go.
Yes, the styling is boring for some American tastes but before the scoops were grafted, Monaro was a cleanly styled vehicle in the European sense. It was never aimed at US enthusiasts hence the mixed reception its getting.
Btw, when I say well packaged, I'm not referring to the tiny trunk.
Anyway, I'm sure our US friends can and will build the mightiest pony car ... just can't wait to see the concept in January. How's that for diplomacy?

Too bad Holden won't have any Torana appropriate platforms to use. *
* That's what I'm worried about.

The Torana concept Beta platform.....is there. Holden has said it can't afford to build it for Holden alone....However if they have GM/NA backing they could. The dimensions are just about right, slap new sheet metal for American tastes...swap the V6TT for a LS2 and its done.

But all my sources and all the public statements from Holden indicate to me that the whole concept is dead.
Have you heard anything different?

Heresy!
Heinrocket is a bit more than just a half decent test driver.

I heard it died due to lack of support from GM N/A....now if they want Holden to now build the pony car things may have changed??? Hey i'm only speculating on your original question. Mickey T might have some inside info??
