Does this have any significance?
Does this have any significance?
Does a 350 hp, 5.3L, V8, FWD W-body have any significance? Because that's what this is.

More details.
PONTIAC GRAND PRIX AUTOCROSS FEATURES V-8 ENGINE, PERFORMANCE ACCESSORIES
For 2004, the new Grand Prix production car elevated the concept of style, performance and excitement to create a segment-leading midsize sedan. At the 2003 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, Pontiac kicks the Grand Prix’s performance capabilities up a notch with a 350-horsepower V-8 engine. The Grand Prix is one of a number of performance-tuned, specially equipped show vehicles suitable for Autocross racing applications.
The Grand Prix Autocross show car features GM’s 5.3-liter V-8 engine with cat-back exhaust, bigger stabilizer bars, performance-tuned shocks and springs and lowered wheel-to-body ride height.
A number of enhancements give the Grand Prix Autocross a more performance-oriented, substantial appearance, including a custom-made carbon fiber hood with air inlets, front fascia with carbon fiber inset and rear fascia carbon fiber extensions and rocker panel, new grille, projector beam headlamps with carbon fiber housing, a GM Performance Parts-modified spoiler with carbon fiber extension and dual aluminum exhaust outlets.
Stainless Steel Brake Corp. custom rotors and calipers, custom 18-inch wheels and BF Goodrich g-force T/A KD tires complete the performance package. Inside, performance touches include custom aluminum pedals, sporty, sleek seats trimmed with Naugahyde material and Delphi custom gauge cluster package with redesigned graphics.
The Grand Prix Autocross features a hydrographic trim kit in carbon fiber. This appearance kit, to be offered as a Pontiac accessory, enables owners to custom trim their vehicles in potentially hundreds of patterns or colors.
Optically enhanced exterior paint in Dark Cherry coats the Grand Prix Autocross. This paint is developed by Color Design Studio of America and produced by Sherwin Williams.

I think it just shows where they eventually want to go with the Grand Prix. Eventually it will get a 5.3L genIV when it moves to RWD. As for now they can only show their intent with the current FWD car.

Interesting. It would be neat if they effectively execute a true autocross package on a production vehicle. I'd start with the Solstice.
Seeing some of the stuff that will be shown at SEMA I'd suggest Dave Hill and the Corvette team do a seminar titled "Weight is the Enemy". for everyone in GM that has any input in performance oriented vehicles

(That's right, this means no RWD "Impala" for awhile.
)

That's what I was thinking too!
I personally think that car lokks fantastic.
The ground effects are profound yet not gaudy, and the car definitely says to the viewer "I am not typical".
That car should come to the dealerships.
An interesting side note...
I find it curious why Pontiac, with all the recent hype about performance, new models with ***** and pizazz, the intro of the GTO, the "We build Excitement" slogan , and so on... why would they pull out of NASCAR? They won 2 of the last 3 championships for chrissake? Tony Stewart is the reigning champion and he is in a Pontiac right now. Why would GM pull Pontiac from one of the best advertising venues for performance vehicles?
I just don't understand some of the things that big business does these days...

That would make the 2004 S/C 3800 Impala SS a one-year wonder... sort of like the 1990 Turbo Grand Prix and a few other cars like that.... actually could end up being a collectable down the road.
