Dodge Challenger AND Dodge 'Cuda????????

OK, this is the new car rumor board...isn't it?

We've already talked about the Dodge performance coupe that has been rumored to appear at SEMA. The name Challenger has been flying around for this one. And it will have some sort of "Six Pack" under it's hood. Who knows, this could be a Stratus coupe or Neon replacement...for all we know...with a very high output V6.

Here's an additional rumor. Dodge "Cuda (Yes, Dodge). This will supposedly be a much smaller LX car. A ponycar, to compete with Mustang, Camaro, 350Z and G35. It will have lots and lots of power. Think 6.1 Hemi or even SC 6.1!

Rumored to appear on the '05 show circuit....possibly either Chicago or New York....it will go into production in '06.

while i don't disrespect the mustang, i have always prefered the camaro over it. i have seen alot of mustangs as image cars (which was some of the purpose in the 60's). as the for the cuda mopar performance is the only thing i compare with the camaro. if one came out it would be very interesting and i would be undecided.

The Challenger is suppose to be the Stratus replacement. The Cuda has been with the rumor about the 2dr LX. BTW, there should be a 2dr SWB LX concept at Detroit. The Neon replacement has been rumored to name the Demon.

Re: Dodge Challenger AND Dodge 'Cuda????????

why 'cuda'? wasn't that a plymouth iirc??

why not call it the challenger, or roadrunner or super bee??

or heaven forbid, try to think of a new name instead of continually raping the legacy of the muscle-car era...this well is drying up fast

Re: Dodge Challenger AND Dodge 'Cuda????????

Not a fan of the Dodge labeling on the Cuda but if it looks good an has that power train I'd be hard pressed to not consider buying one. I can only hope this is true because I've been hoping for a Hemi powered ponycar ever since I heard the "Hemi" was making a come back.

Any rumor of when it might be seeing the market? It would be awesome if this the new Cobra/GT350, and the Camaro all came out in the same year.

Cuda and challenger are the same platform. That would be like the firebird coming back as a grand am ( ) and a camaro coming back as a camaro. IMO use the name challenger for the pony car (like it should be used) and think of something new and original for the stratus nobody cares about rather than drag a muscle car name down with it.

That aside, the idea of a six pack 6.1 hemi pony car is

Given the ugly mess they already made of the new Charger... I don't have much hope for the way this thing is going to turn out .

I've thought the same thing quite a bit. Doesn't anybody have the guts to come up with a new performance car that would sell well enough on its own merits, rather than trying to cash in on an old name?

I've already been called an old f***, who needs Viagra (would be news to the wife ) and should have relations with an elephant until I die ......AND I was told that musclecars were rusty dangerous cars that destroyed Detroit .....SO, I'm not too sure anyone wants to hear my opinion any more.

Honestly, as long as the new car DESERVES the name, I'm all for it!

But throw a legendary name on a car that leaves of the one identifying option that every one of it's predessesors had.....or throw a name on a 4 door sedan that bears absolutely no identifiable shape or relationship to it's namesake and I'll give you an earfull.

Both GM and Chrylser know better and now GM is learning the hard way what happens when you only go half-baked.

The comments and disappointment I expressed when I first saw the sketches for the GTO have been echoed in every magazine and television review since it debuted.

IF Chrysler insist on calling the 4 door sedan the Charger, they'll suffer the same ridicule.

Rationalizations will not sway those of us who understand WHY they choose to use names that are rooted in legend.......it's greed pure and simple.

A Charger might have Coronet roots, but it was different and built it's legend as the Charger. A GTO might have been built on the Tempest line, but it was transformed into the GTO.

When you can call a new model ANYTHING that's not already spoken for, but choose to use a name in hopes of regaining stature or a few more sales, but don't even spend the effort or foresight to at least make it seem that it came from the same DNA, you deserve to be called on it.

Why not call these half-baked efforts Tempest (or even Monaro) and Coronet? That's what they are.

Say what you want to about the execution, but at least Ford get's it.

Guess it's hard to shut on old man up....(geez, who'd have thought 47 was that old?!?)

Re: Dodge Challenger AND Dodge 'Cuda????????

Back on the original topic, I have no problem with Dodge using Challenger, if it fits the criteria (2 door, RWD, V8 power... pony car-ish)...

I do have an issue with a "Dodge 'Cuda" though... that's just wierd... bring on the Buick Camaro next

But, if the car is a rebodied Eclipse, which it probably will be, then this is more name-rape.
