I think that a 900 with improved aerodynamics, 6spd auto with double over drive, mild hybrid technology, an DoD, could get a very awesome mpg number, enough to shake the crap out of thoes Prius-loving people.
Even DoD with 6spd autos should get GM a much better mpg rating.
I don't think a truck with DOD or hybrid power will come close to a Prius/Accord Hybrid in milage anytime in the near future.

I didn't think it does.
My understanding is it occurs at highway cruising speeds. I believe there was a link to a white paper on it several months back.

Try a search on DOD.

Around the city yes. Part fo the reason I don't think it shuts down at idle is because there would be a hesitiation when starting from a stop as all de-activated cylinders come back online.

I also thought all the talk about the Magnum and 300C's DOD system was about it's highway gains, not the city number.

Please. Prius/Accord doesn't get the mileage they claim to get either.

No, but if GM could get a 350hp truck to get high 20's in mpg, it would be a bigger deal then an supereconobox getting mid 40's.

Hybrid's aren't really that great. Not worth the High Initial Cost. But this has already been debated. I'll take the DoD with a nice Overdrive.

Re: Displacement on Demand

So what does a DoD V8 sound like running on 4 cylinders with a loud aftermarket exhaust? Not very good, I'd imagine. All those rednecks will be made fun of for having trucks that sound like a fart cannon Honda
