Most of those ultra-lean burn Honda engines got taken away because they couldn't meet emissions. For example, early Insights had a lean burn program that allowed them to go WAY lean, but for 2nd or 3rd year models it was programmed out.
I can only assume that this was due to high NOx emissions. Going back the Insight, its NOx is only marginally lower than a Corvette's!

The difference is that there was no effective after treatment on the Insight's NOx in lean burn mode, whereas the Corvette has a nice three-way cat to help out.

Does anyone know what percentage of NOx a typical three-way cat eliminates?
