Dec. 31, 2009...which autobrands don't make it?
I tried to find this online somewhere but couldn't so I'll just have to type it. It comes from the Feb issue of Motor Trend (I know, not the best source for facts). On page 13, in the column titled "MT Confidential", there's a sentence that reads:
"A senior BMW exec has admitted that the company could last just two years in the current economic climate before running out of cash"
It looks like the crowd might thin out over the next few years if things don't turn around.

Ford has said it is committed to Mercury and if it does indeed invest in the division, why not try to build it into something successful and expand share? Small cars are where it's at right now and Mercury has a lot of potential. (As does EVERY old line Detroit division) If Ford doesn't realize that, they're no smarter than GM IMO.
Mercury will probably get a Focus clone and maybe some other vehicles in the short-term, but in the long-term the brand becomes unnecessary -- or could be treated as a trim level and not an actual full-fledged brand.
