Dead man walking...Trailblazer EXT

Not really "new" news....but about time, I say.

Not only did they look weird, they handled like a stretched limo, had a horrid interior and were at least as expensive (and large) as a Tahoe. What was the point?

I remember asking Scott about them at the SLP Raceday in Hebron, Ohio, July 02 ...seems GM had concluded there was a demand for long vehicles that gave the illusion of being smaller because of their width.

While I didn't care for the look of them, I see TONS of these things driving around....

I guess the cost just isn't justifying their production at this point. Having a dedicated plat just for the extended versions probably is it's downfall.

Re: Dead man walking...Trailblazer EXT

only reason the went extended was to accomate the 3rd row. And they had to that because of the solid rear axle. An IRS could be done and then reg length (and good looks) can be kept.

I like them. I think they're the 757 (long and narrow) of truck based mid sized SUV's . But the 757 is no longer produced, and there's probably no need for these either.

It's not like the EXT interior was any worse than the non-EXT model, which I've heard numerous people here defend adamently. The GMC and Saab version of the same look a bit better though still way too cheap for what they cost IMO.

not quite...there are people out there that wanted the third row of seats...but didn't want the width or length of a Tahoe/Suburban.

Yup........so wow..........WE LISTENED TO THE CUSTOMER!

So I'll have everyone on that team go stand in the corner for 4 hours....just for you!

I am one of the people who fall into that catagory.

Of course, I had a lot of issues with extended cab pickups when they came out..... then crew cabs...

I just thought they looked odd, and too long... but they have become the norm now.

I guess I have the same feeling when I look at en extended TB or Envoy... they just look out of proportion to me.

One thing that I would question far more, on the EB/Envoy line was the Envoy XUV... it was really odd looking in the rear... and the sliding roof... while very different, and ingeniuos.... you had to wonder how often anyone would actually USE that feature.... how many trees or grandfather clocks do people really want to tansport, sticking stright out the top of their SUV?

That said, someone at my office almost bought an Envoy XUV, but they said wthe extra feature fo the sliding roof wasn't worth how much more it would have cost over a standard Envoy... so they passed and got the regular style.

Anyway, I still think it is bad that the entended versions of the Envoy and TB apparently require a seperate assembly line to build them... if they could be built on the same line as the regular length verisons, you'd think they'd be quite savable, and make more sense cost-wise as well.

Well, they said MANY people liked the XUV for work, etc. and I can vouch for that. Our contractors had a couple and really liked them for their versatility, but really, most workers would just get an Av or regular truck instead. I can see why it failed despite it being pretty cool.
