Maybe if GM were to buy some old Accord tooling from Honda, they might finally have a mid-size entry that got some respect in the marketplace

Nope, I can't see how that would change anything. For example, the Matrix and Vibe are the same car. Why is it that the Matrix will be on a "10 best" or "Reliable" list, and the Vibe won't be?
interesting note: vibe is the only car in the past 16 years (thats when the first award at nummi is listed) of nummi not to get any awards for quality. although the prizm did get a few. wonder if thats because the media wasnt as biased and dead set against anything American

How about the late 1980s/early 90s Pontiac LeMans (shameful use of the name, IMO) that was originally an Opel Kadett design, but manufactured by Daewoo.

The early 90's Lotus Elan became the Kia Elan. I think the Qvale/DeTomasa Mangusta was bought by MG before they went bust. I'm pretty sure the MG version was restyled though.
