Is the space really the "cup holder" space or just spare stowage space. They don't look like genuine cup holders to me.

According to the link there are indents in them for cups.

Is that better than no cup holders at all?

You're missing the point, "But there you have it: One final quirk in the final Pontiac Solstice model." That is pure comedy right there, just raw, hilarious truth.

but to seriously answer the question, i'd say no, this is not better than no cupholder at all. If it can't even hold a small coffee cup safely, let alone a larger one, then it is useless. And since a cupholder indent is just going to trap dirt and dust and make detailing the interior that much more work, i'd say they are a net loss... except for the fact that they are so damn funny.

The Solstice interior is terrible in a number of ways. So is the Sky's. I was seriously considering buying a Sky Redline a couple years back based on the powertrain, fuel economy, and great exterior looks... until I sat in one at the dealer. My opinion of the car did the quickest 180 I've ever experienced in my life.

As far as the cupholders go... yeah those are pretty terrible. To those saying 'it is better than nothing'... what is your point? How many cars have NO cup holders at all? So where does that leave the Solstice? If GM put a steering wheel in from the barbie jeeps sold at Walmart it would be better than no steering wheel at all, but still worse than anything else on the market, so that's not exactly progress, is it?

I've suffered through a few years of terrible cupholder design myself having had an 06 Audi A4 and 07 BMW 335i, but at least they put the cup holders at the front of the car and no in a place where other stuff is going to slide and knock the cup over resulting in potentially hot liquid hitting people's backs/necks/heads.

The cup holder situation is not great, but there is still one in the front. Solstice coupe is still better than 93-96 LT1 Camaros.

It's kinda like a hot woman with two extra breasts on her back. Sure..it's nice to say you have 4 breasts...but you only have two hands, and the ones on here back are inconvient.

Define better (Looks, performance, quality, materials, etc?) The honest truth is it should be better in most all respects since it came to the market almost a DECADE after the LT1 Camaro ceased production.

If this were the case, I'd probably enjoy dancing !!

I'd probably lean towards the theory that these are worse than having none at all, since I am sure someone would be tempted to use them, and douse the interior first stop, turn, or acceleration ...

Yup, in my C5 I have a little aftermarket cupholder on the passenger side that's actually useful. The stock one gets used to store random small crap like mp3 players and packs of gum.
