This coming from an M6 owner.

I dunno.. I really like manual..
Never even sat in a Ferrari. but all those reviewers, that toss them around the track seem to like their paddle shifters.. You toggle the paddle and you get a perfect up or down shift every time, faster than a human can do it with a conventional manual shifter... although the suspension reacting to the shifts is kinda insane too.. Your shifts are faster, and you hvae less to worry about, so you can concentrate more on actually driving through turns, which should make your lap times faster....... Sounds intresting in my book..

Or you can argue someone with equal skill can be even faster with a paddle shifter than they would be in a comparable car with conventional stick
Or simply, if you are in a Ferrari, the expectation bar is raised.. and it would be sure embarassing if you get you get beat by, say, someone in a Z06..

B-W might be a supplier for components in the transmission (I have no idea), but they are not building the transmission and selling it (like they have done with the T56 manual, for example). GM is building the 6L80E.
