Cruze and next Malibu delayed

According to Business Week, GM is even cutting back on the programs it hopes will help turn the company around. Utility bills are also being scrutinized as light bulbs and refridgerators are being removed.

I have heard about the Malibu move already, which makes since because the original plan for this Malibu was only 3 years or so, I think. Now they have moved it to a 5 year plan. I do not know about the Cruze though.

Absolutely retarded. They need Cruze yesterday, not later.

That is fine with the Malibu, a 4 year run is standard anyways. Hopefully they upgrade it to the 2.3L GDI engine though.

Cruze needs to be on dealer lots tomorrow. The car is already done, no reason not to get it hear ASAP.

I imagine the hold up on Cruze is because of the money they were going to have to invest in upgrading the plant where they planned to build the Cruze/Volt engines. They're trying to cut costs to make the merger with Chrysler work.

Yeah I worked for a company that did that also, they had a team go thru the 3 warehouses and remove every other flourescent tube from the ceiling. It was pretty dark in the warehouses after that for about a month, then they went out of bussiness.

Volt program is off limits to cutbacks. The Flint engine plant will be built if its GMs last $370 million. The federalization of the Cruze for US market must be taking the hit. Its ironic that the Volt program is off limits to cutbacks, since it wont make GM any money anyway.

It's for the better anyway... maybe it'll stop the knee-jerk over-reaction to temporarily high gas prices by swinging virtually all of the companies resources to fuel misers.

Gas is cheap, and it's getting cheaper.

There, someone had to say it.

True, although OPEC is getting set to cut production again which should slow or even reverse some of the welcomed downward trend.

Cruze is still a car they need here right away. I don't see this as being good news or even indifferent news.

Ya, I'm being semi-sarcastic with the idea... (which means semi-honest, I suppose...lol... ) as for the production cuts, looks like they did it today, and oil dropped even more! woohoo!

When a company goes to that extreme, that's not good.

There are people whose only job is to keep an eye on utility bills. Going beyond them and actually doing the things you mention means things are getting desparate.

This is the thing that completely baffles me.

LaCrosse and CTS coupe unveilings also delayed:

Does this mean their intros are delayed as well?

wait wait?? I know they went the cost cutting route. But could these delays be to see where the GM Chrysler merger goes? I mean if GM has Chrysler to deal with soon. Then introing new cars might be a bad thing especially if they have 30 new models they just picked up.

I know its out there on thought but just wondering.

GM is hurting that bad. This has nothing to do with a possible merger. On the other hand, Chrysler cutting about 30% of its white collar work force will make it easier for a merger/takeover/purchase.
