Not too shabby, I wonder what the real world numbers will be. The Beetle TDi is rated at 28/41 and Car and Driver got an average of 45mpg.

These cars should be $17K. Not $25K.

At $17-18K these cars would wipe up North America with Honda, Toyota, and Nissan.

It depends on what the real world mpg will be. It might be higher or lower. If it's higher they will sell well, if it's lower it will suck on sales for the first year since all of the yellow journalists will bbq gm about it.

$7k Price difference is still a lot of coin between the Base and the Diesel model. Fingers crossed it still sells well.

I'm hoping that since the next Equinox and Terrain are moving to the Delta II platform that they will get this engine as well (and that you can get it as a stand alone option).

I had the same thought. It would make one hell of a family hauler.

When you consider the premium the Diesel Cruze costs over say the Eco Cruze plus the considerably higher cost of diesel I think from an economic standpoint your better off buying the ECO Cruze?

Its cool but for someone that just wants a fuel sipper, you could get a well loaded prius for the same price that gets slightly better hwy milage and far better city milage and you don't have to pay the premium diesel fuel prices. Unless you just really hate hybids, not sure why you would get this instead.

You dont get the diesel torque out of the Prius, and the subjective part, I think the Prius looks ridiculous and the boring Cruze is actually quite a nice looking normal car. I would much rather opt for the diesel because it would be the one option that wouldn't remind you constantly you got the lifeless economy model. That's jmo though, a minority opinion perhaps.

The Eco Cruze seems to have no problem bettering the EPA ratings, and in some hwy cases, by quite a bit. Hopefully the Diesel Cruze follows the typical diesel them of exceeding the ratings too.

It would be super cool if GM really got on board here GM and were to offer an Astra GTC type sport suspension paired with the diesel and a manual trans= a frugal, fun DD.
