werent the original turbo RX7s axed because they could not meet OBDII emissions laws? Ive heard that turbos, rotaries, and emissions laws do not mix.

That had a lot to do with it. 2nd and 3rd generation turbo RX7s are a mass of vacuum lines in an effort to be emissions friendly, a real nightmare to deal with sometimes.

However, with the re-designed port placement in the Renesis engine the rotary is much more emissions friendly, I believe to the tune of 90-95% less emissions than the 3rd gen RX7 had.
