Cosworth Vega
With the talk of retros and names for cars, I thought I'd throw this out ...
At lunch I saw what looked to be a fairly pristine brown Vega, with a gold stripe with Cosworth Twin Cam scripted in as part of the stripe. Although I'm not familiar with this car, it looked OEM, and the script looks 70's-ish.
I thought Cosworth was associated with Ford.
I guess Cobalt wins, but I was holding out for Vega ... j/k

I love Cosworth Vegas.
Think about it. A mid 70's car from GM of all places.....with an aluminum block and head, 4 valves per cylinder, twin cams, and electronic port fuel injection (years before computers started controlling engine function).
It was done in by high cost and performance robbing emission requirements.

Ah...
The Cosworth Vega. A fine piece of powertrain engineering.
Another car that went to the graveyard just as GM got it right.
Nice as they were, the evil demons which rule my car-life would immediatly start looking for wheel-tubs and a small block...

I also recall reading that the price of them was insanely high, comparable to very high end cars of the day.
Why didn't the Cosworth sell? Most knowledgeable people feel it was a combination of many factors; high unit costs, (over $6000 dollars in 1976, nearly the cost of a new Corvette!) less than expected performance, and a general disinterest in the Vega due to it's previous bad reputation which by 1975 was greatly undeserved.

You guys are too much ... I think the collective knowledge on this board knows about every single make/model in existence.
I guess the one I saw was "Buckskin." Should've known there would be a webpage

"Yeah I remember the Cosworth Vegas. They were cool.... but not as cool as swapping in an sbc."
I always thought the same thing.
Nifty technology... now... how long is it going to take me to rip that doorstop out and get the Mouse in there? Prolly gonna need a new tranny and rear axle too...
