Corvette parts in F5??

A friend of mine at work also works at a GM certified repair shop. He told me that information about the F5 suspension could be found in a new shop guide they just got in. The information was pretty hard to understand from what he said. He said part of the rear suspension was the similar between the C5/C6 rear and the Camaro. Since the 4th gen uses a live axle I doubt it shares anything with the C5 so this could only mean one thing the next camaro. The part he talked about specifically was the rear lower control arm. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Do Holdens, Sigmas, or the new VE share rear suspension peices with the Vette?

Or is it possible that the Rumble was developed with corvette parts in mind, afterall Team Camaro was absorbed into Team Corvette. And there is NO information leaking out about what is going on with Corvette save for really small stuff (cupholder numbers, tire sizes). It would make sense to me to hide it in there. Remember GuionM said that the F5 chasis had been chosen quite a while ago. Before the Solstice had a chance at production.

Can anyone shed light on this without getting fired???

I'd have a hard time believing specific suspension parts and geometry are complete on a car that appears to not even be officially approved yet.

I'd imagine he is just confused as to what this information applies to.

Yeah, we have to see this page, or the name or number of the book.

Isn't the SS concept made up of a lot of C4/C5 parts? Also, in the GONGOS thread a few months ago, Danno pointed out that the body style was very much like the SS. So maybe this is another hint towards the 5th gen being based off of the SS concept. Just speculation

If they call the car I am thinking Camaro (which it looks like they may), it looks like all of this work may have been done by now...

As fasr as sharing parts with the Vette I am unsure..

I find this hard to believe. It's probably XLR info. I think a repair shop will be one of the last places to learn about the 5th gen. In fact, why is there a repair manual for a suspension set up on a car that hasn't been produced yet, let alone exist in concept form?

Pretty certain your friend has XLR rear suspension info he may have mistaken for 5th gen (6th gen Corvette?). Till we see the book, we simply won't know.

However, Assuming a new Camaro has been approved, IMHO parts would be going to vendors now for development instead of parts books.

Megadeath, you do bring up something to think about though.
1. The SS concept did use a Corvette rear suspension. Why? Why not Sigma??
2. The performance coupe at the clinic did resemble the SS concept (in all fairness, it's also said to resemble the new Corvette in many ways as well).

IZ28, you bring up the one thing that seems pretty certain. This performance coupe has been going on longer than most of us suspect.

You know it has Guion, and you probably know alot more than you are allowed to say.

To address 2. in your post, is it safe to say that particular performance coupe was also a styling exercise like the SS Concept??

It's probably abit early for shop manuals....but I wouldn't be surprised if Camaro shared things like certain control arms or suspension geometry with the C6.
