I was hoping that the RWD Impala would get the V8 diesel. I would get that in a minute to replace my wife's 04 imp!
If Chevy were to get a diesel H3T, I would trade my 05 Silverado in also.

The VE? Nah there has been talk of a diesel model ever since it's debut.

Holden Calais V sportswagon with diesel + manual = perfect (for me!) as long as it gets great fuel consumption on the highway.

The timeline for the V6 diesel would mean it would be ready in time for the VF Commodore.

BTW, I seem to remember holden saying that they would not do a diesel unless there was another market for it, ready to pay up on some of the development costs.........

There's talk of a VF? Tell us what you've heard.

Relax, it's certainly not as extensively new as what you're probally thinking.

Upgrades, modest or otherwise rate a new body designation from Holden and Ford Australia.

The VF Commodore is the 1st upgrade on the current VE. Likely a different grille and various improvements. Should be out within a year or so.

FWIW: The 2004 GTO was a VY based Holden Monaro, but the 2005/2006 GTO with hood scoops, duals, and better brakes was a VZ.

The VE chassis is on a 6 year cycle. At the mid way point Holden are expected to release a minor update called VF (Look at the VX to VY interior/exterior update). The VE model was considered to be a major update. Holden, since VE, are now using 'MY2008' model designation so they hold their resale value better. I might have this the wrong and it might be VE = redesign, VF= major update, 'MY2008' = minor update but I'm not 100% sure. Anyway VF should start August 2009 and finish 2012, just in time for a new RWD chassis. (see below Charlie)

What to expect? New interior (keeping the same hard points) & front/rear redesign (i'm thinking more Torana like). Door, roof etc probably wont change.

Rumours are that Holden are working on reducing the size of the A pillar as it is a bit too big, but if this makes VF I don't know. Only other stuff I have heard is an engine/trans update. I expect the current top V6+A5 (as seen in the G8) will become the base and the DIV6+A6 will take over as the top V6 in Holden's line up (this will match Fords upcoming line up). If the Camaro gets a base V8 with DI, AFM etc I expect Holden will take that onboard. Maybe a diesel too.....

Oh and Charlie, at the release of the VE, Holden engineers admitted the VE was the wrong car for the wrong time (i.e. to big & heavy) and that the next full redesign would see the commodore shrink and lose weight with more thinking toward economy.

Thanks for the info. Any word if the next gen might be a version of Zeta?

Well from what I have read the talk was about getting the Torana (Alpha) from the US. If that is the case something will have to go into the Elizabeth factory. If I was to guess (!!) I would say the next Commodore would be very loosely based on the current zeta.

I just don't see holden spending another billion on "zeta 2" after the luke warm response (so far) to it from GM NA.
