Colorado ZQ8 test. Colorado SS on the way?
Initial dynamic targets for the ZQ8 were the old Chevy S-10 Extreme pickup, and when that standard was passed almost immediately, the Chevy Camaro Z28 was the next handling benchmark. Next, Taverna took aim at the Vibe GT and suddenly we’re looking not so much at a compact truck as we are at a sport compact.
"While some old-timers might think you can put the SS badge only on vehicles with V8 engines, there may be others who are younger at heart, who just might accept an inline five cylinder – as long as it produces 300 or more horsepower, which Wallace says is possible with either a turbo or supercharger. Add in larger brakes, racing-style seats, maybe a special shifter for the gearbox -- and even an audio system with a watt rating that equals the engine’s horsepower numbers -- and such a vehicle still could come to market for around 30 grand."
That sounds pretty cool, but for 30 grand their are lots of nicer, better performing cars that I'd rather have.
Get the whole package in for $26,850.....and it would sound better.

I highly, highly doubt a Vibe outhandles a Z28 and that likewise this truck outhandles one. I think it must be a slight misquote or erroneous paraphrase by the author of something Wallace said about the benchmarking process.

Nevertheless, it's disturbs me to hear that a truck's handling is being compared to my favorite pony car.
You can get a nicely equipped regular cab ZQ8 for around $21K.
An SS is going to be around $30K. All I can say is, WOW!!
That's a BIG jump. I don't think an SS would be worth $30K. At least not in my book.

But a Colorado SS for $30K? I have to admit that a 300 horse turbo I5 is tempting. But for the $30K price of admission...you are really playing in a whole new ballgame. Even if I were in the market for such a truck....there would probably be about a dozen vehicles on my list that I would buy for the price....before even considering a Colorado SS.
