Climate Change may outlaw Perfromance Cars in Europe

I'm all for going 'green' as long as it creates more jobs and opportunities then it destroys. Those who use the environment to push socialism and/or neo-marxism are nothing more then 'watermelons' ('green' on the outside with a 'red' marxist center )

Chris Davies, a British member of the European Parliament, is proposing one of the most-extreme measures -- a prohibition on any car that goes faster than 162 kilometers (101 miles) an hour, a speed that everything from the humble Honda Civic on up can exceed. He ridiculed fast cars as ``boys' toys.''

The proposed ban would take effect in 2013. Davies told the Guardian newspaper that ``cars designed to go at stupid speeds have to be built to withstand the effects of a crash at those speeds. They are heavier than necessary, less fuel-efficient and produce too many emissions.''

It's not going anywhere. It has to be agreed to by all European countries, let alone Great Britain.

German citizens virturally rebelled when a speed limit was proposed on the Autobaun, and every major European car maker gets healthy cash from their upper end cars. Ferrari is essentially a representitive of Italy.

I'd give it zero chance of becoming law.

LOL.. that would never pass, Italy and German would never approve such a policy.

Is it me or is Britain trying to become a V for Vendetta, 1984, kind of place lately.

I wonder when some one will suggest that tabacco should be outlawed because of the CO2 emissions.

You would just end up with Ferraris electronically limited at 101mph

From the article:

Vaclav Klaus: I ask myself several questions. Let’s put them in the proper sequence:

• Is global warming a reality?

• If it is a reality, is it man-made?

• If it is a reality, is it a problem? Will the people in the world, and now I have to say “globally”, better-off or worse-off due to small increases of global temperature?

• If it is a reality, and if it is a problem, can men prevent it or stop it? Can any reasonable cost-benefit analysis justify anything – within the range of current proposals – to be done just now?

Surprisingly, we can say yes – with some degree of probability – only to the first question. To the remaining three my answer is no. And I am not alone in saying that. We are, however, still more or less the silent or silenced majority.

----------

Well put. It's surprising that few are asking these very logical and fundamental questions. Most people seem driven to want to change the entire world's behaviour based on questionable 'facts' and not very well thought out conclusions.

This guy is a dunbass. First off performance cars are not heavy. Secondly how many miles are driven in these performance cars and I bet its close to zero at those speeds he is talking about. I think they should also outlaw all sporting events too. I am sure the pollution done to put on your average soccer in Europe is way more than these cars produce.

NO but many of the cars on the roads in Europe can and do drive over 162 kph on a regular basis.

I can assure you that those performance cars drive at those speeds...they past me on the Autobahn everyday on my way to work when I lived in Germany. Driving to work everyday, I drove about 100 MPH, in my humble 2005 Cavalier and I was always being passed.

What the hell does top speed have to do with emissions?

Won't someone PLEASE reel in the growing insanity surrounding "Global Warming"?
