I feel that anyone who seriously thinks DCX is going to sell Chrysler, especially over a few months of bad sales after over 2 years of almost uninterrupted growth is off their rocker.

And that's not even counting that the current DamilerChrysler CEO, Dieter Zetsche, worked his a** off turning Chrysler around against a culture at DCX that treated Chrysler as a unwanted stepchild.

Bodo Uebber is DCX's chief financial officer, not CEO.

Imagine if Scott Settlemire's work with the Camaro put him into the position of General Manager for the Chevrolet Motor Division. Now suppose that the 5th gen Camaro after blazing sales charts and virturally carrying Chevrolet for 2 years suddenly stopped selling, & the top financial guy when doing a presentation said "We don't exclude anything here" when asked if Camaro would be killed off due to a sudden drop in sales. I suspect you'd believe Scott would find the problem with Camaro sales and get people hopping to fix it, even if it meant changing some personnel before you'd convince him to kill Camaro.

Same with Dieter Zetsche and selling off Chrysler.

Afterall today's Chrysler is his baby, and he's already been very publically p*ssed off that current Chrysler leadership let Chrysler get into this situation.

If Toyota buy into Chrysler they'd overhaul GM as the world's biggest automaker... and Toyota could almost claim to be the country's biggest employer.

I say Toyota and not GM as I don't think GM have the money to buy Chrysler... besides GM have too many brands for the market volume they command.

If I remember right, I think Dieter Zetsche worked up through Chrysler to become CEO. Is he the one responsible for the LX cars?

I dunno about that. The Germans have a habit of playing their cards close to their chest.

Recall BMW buying into British Rover and realizing it made a poor purchasing decision... years later kept the best bit (reinvented the Mini brand) and sold the rest.

The question needs to be asked, does Daimler Benz need Chrysler or can it spin off its American brand and maintain its market capitalisaton? Well, BMW did something similar, why would it be hard to imagine Daimler Benz doing the same?

Toyota would spend so much money converting Chrysler cars to FWD appliances that they'd just go broke and no one would care. What DCX has done with the company will all come around in a couple years when foriegn car makers loose grip on disguising their cars as "American" and Americans start buying American cars again. ....if the recalls stay tame that is.

that is the biggest thing..people are blindly following Toyota into thinking whatever it does its "american" Just sad really..I could go on but the thing is how did they ever convince millions that the Prius was a good looking car???

An addition to Ghram's post:

While Camaro owes it's existance to Ford (twice), the upcoming RWD Impala and it's spinoffs owe their existance to Chrysler.

The 300 marked the rebirth of the classic American sedan, the Charger marked the rebirth of agressive styling in regualr family cars.... in fact, just about every car Chrysler has come out with the past 2-3 years has been a success (between good sales figures to a home run).

Chrysler's entire problem is traced to the fact that Ram sales finally stopped defying gravity with high fuel cost and other makers big rigs dropping, and the fact Chrysler kept forcing vehicles that weren't selling onto dealers at the risk of not getting popular or SRT models.

The issue isn't "Chrysler is a wreak... lets sell it".
