I still haven't seen any proper television ads for AWD drive cars from any of the U.S. big three. You know where they show a car blasting through snow to safely get the family to their destination, while passing stranded Accords and Camaries . It's almost like it's a secret.

I agree that they need an AWD branding to differentiate the option. The obvious ones are Audi Quattro, VW 4Motion, BMW "x" and older Jeep "Selectrac."

It's amazing how ahead of their time these cars seem now. They were really kind of oddball when they were new, but encompass a lot of what people want in a vehicle today.

A friend of mine has a Charger R/T with the AWD. He really likes it.

Who would even want a Sebring/Avenger, much less an AWD version?

I had no idea you could get AWD on the Sebring or Avenger (I am normally encyclopedic about that stuff). So I would say it is likely lack of awareness, and dealers not stocking them.

Could be GAZ. They liked the last one so much, they bought the tooling.

Is Ford killing AWD Fusions? Or did that happen already?

[QUOTE=Aaron91RS;5642902This is a car board and I doubt many people even know the 5.7L hemi charger comes in AWD.
To me this is huge and yet you never hear about it.

AWD 300/ Charger look so boxy! They have tall tires with big sidewalls and really loose that low tire profile look, Look too much like a jacked up Subaru to me.

I dont think I've ever seen an AWD Sebring/ Avenger.

Does anybody know about the viability of these AWD systems? I would feel comfortable trusting manufacturers that have been the AWD kings in the business like Subaru, Audi, etc. Stuff that comes with crap like Haldex differentials and things that have been shown to hold up pretty well.

My mom and dad bought an '03 Merc Mountaineer brand new. It's full-time AWD, unlike it's selectable 4wd Explorer counterpart. It's noisy, the differentials (front and rear) have both had leaky seals and were replaced under warranty. The transmission leaked under warranty, was fixed, and now at 58k miles, is leaking again. And the whole thing just feels funny like the torque isn't distributing correctly.

I'd be really hesitant to jump into an AWD Fusion. Chrysler...I'd give them a little more credit as it's possible they're using equipment carried over from Jeep.

I think it's the granddaddy of cross-overs, too.

I remember when I worked at Saturn, the Vue had a horrible AWD system IMO, It would spin the front wheels for far too long before engaging AWD and often you had to intentionally drive really throttle heavy to get it moving in the snow.

Why would you be worried about the Fusion? Ford knows its AWD stuff.

Chrysler's pass-car stuff is generally different that the traditional Jeep systems, as there's no way to mechanically lock the center diff, there are no disconnects of the front (LX) or rear (JS) drive wheels, and there is no low range.
