Chevy Malibu's shaping up to be pretty spectacular.
Over on Cheers and Gears, a member (CadillacCTS) recently came back from a "Dealer Only" show in Toronto. They have something like that here, often in Vegas.
Even though GM had the new Cadillacs there, and by his account they were stunning, he says it's the Malibu that stole the show!

Also noted in his post:
*Not just the CTS, but likely a updated STS as well is coming during the 2008 model year.
*The production G6 GXP is getting a new Pontiac grille.
*Torrent GXP and Equinox SS will be packing 275 horsepower.
*The GMC Acadia has amazing interior quality.
*Keeps coming back to the looks of the Malibu, and he's not one to shower tons of praise.

Another mention of Malibu in Detroit News, September 30th.
Ironic that a midsize family car from Chevrolet that will be out in months has the potential to steal the NAIAS.
The new, new Malibu
The Chevrolet dealers who gathered Sept. 19 in a ballroom of the Venetian hotel and casino in Las Vegas for General Motors Corp.'s annual dealers meeting held their breath as the cover was pulled off a new car amid a light show and thumping music.
At first, dealers were baffled by the upscale-looking sedan on the stage, and then pleasantly surprised to find out it was the 2008 Malibu, Chevy's entry level sedan that typically starts at less than $20,000.
"It was a stunner. Just a beautiful car," said Jim Quinlan, a Chevy dealer from Knoxville, Tenn. "Nobody could figure out what it was at first. It looks like it would cost $35,000 to $40,000."
Chevy spokesman Terry Rhadigan said dealer reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.
The new Malibu has not been shown publicly but could make its debut at the Detroit auto show next year or one of other major U.S. auto shows.
Quinlan can't wait to get the Malibu on his lot in the latter part of 2007. "It's going to be a home run," he said.

Re: Chevy Malibu's shaping up to be pretty spectacular.
It's been getting alot of hype since over a year ago, when it was seen a the analyst preview. The camo'd spy pics don't look all that remarkable to me. I just hope I'm pleasantly surprised.
I'll be the first to speculate on a Malibu SS. I betcha it'll have a HF 3.6, 265-275 hp and 18" or 19" wheels.

I wonder if Chevy will spawn a 2 door Malibu off of this platform to replace the Monte Carlo?
I'd like to see one maybe even sometime down the road put the LS4 in the Malibu

Funny reading all the hype... from the camo pics of Malibu, it just didn't look like an upmarket car. In fact, it looked like a cheap GM car, which is almost cheap looking by any standard. Anyway, I hope that the car is well received and sells at Camry, Accord volumes.

BTW, the last time I heard this much hype about a 4-door's styling was before the current CTS hit the streets. I recall one writer describing it as the most beautiful and stunning 4-door car to ever be mass produced. He was pretty much right too.

The camoed cars don't give a good look at what's underneath the flat black paint.
In person, the Malibu is stunning. The reports are correct.
The Acadia and Enclave are second lookers as well.
Upgraded Equinox and Torrent models will be suprising in their performance.
If you want a good look at the G6 GXP, buy last months Automobile magazine with the GXP spread....

It is an '06 model. She loves it though...and it is her car so I guess that is all that matters.
